Plank Mask3420/26

Plank mask with circular face and tall, vertical superstructure. The face has two large concentric circle eyes, and a small tubular mouth within a painted triangle. Long orange plant fibre hair is attached at the back of the face mask with blue cords, and hangs down. There is a black downward-curving projection attached at the centre of the forehead. Diamond-shaped panels connect both ends of the long rectangular board. The board is painted with geometric and zoomorphic shapes in black or dark red on a white background. Surmounted by a crescent-shape.

Mask3420/22

Carved and painted mask. The rectangular face section has two sunken rectangular areas on either side of the nose ridge, two rectangular cutout eye holes, and small pointed ears. The forehead is decorated with X's, creating a repeating diamond and triangle design that continues down each side of the face. The designs are painted dark red and black. The superstructure is a female figure with projecting breasts, square shoulders, arms bent at the elbow and held out to the sides. Her left forearm is shaped like a large ladle. She is wearing a red fibre skirt. She has red crest-like hair, and an earring in her left ear.

Mask3420/19

Mask carved from wood. The face is sunken, with a raised nose ridge down the centre of the face. There are two small rectangular cutouts for eyes. High on either side of the head are two long appendages. A long beak-like structure extends from the forehead, and again up from the centre of the head. There are areas where pigment is still visible.

Headdress3420/12

Headdress or helmet carved from wood and painted. The dome-shaped helmet is painted dark red, and is decorated with a face on one side. The face has a long black nose, two white slits for eyes, arched orange-brown eyebrows, and a rectangular mouth with teeth bared. On each cheek and above the eyebrows are three marks. Two small pointed ears extend out on either side, and two larger off-white horn-like appendages extend up from behind the ears. Each horn has three horizontal lines and the tips are pierced. Standing on top centre is a small humanoid figure. On the opposite side is a blue lizard. There are holes drilled through around the rim.

Yam Mask3459/4

Wooden, oval-shaped plaque-like mask. Square hole carved at the bottom and wing-like attachments are on either side, tied to the main body with roots(?). Attachments painted black, on both sides, with crosshatching designs overtop. Primarily done in white with red strokes throughout. Main body painted red-orange, on both sides, with rows of design overtop. Rows have large white “X”’s with thin black ovals in between. Centres of X’s are painted red-orange. Plain black bands between rows, trimmed in white. On the front, the centre oval in the top row has a white chevron border. Above the oval is a sculpted head. Cheeks of face are unpainted, the nose is red, and there is a large black beard covering the bottom portion of the face. It has one thick black eyebrow with two small white eyes underneath. Figure is wearing a headdress(?). Headdress has a red cap with an upside down white triangle in its centre. Headdress extends into a large black circle with white stripes. Area around square hole, on both sides, is unpainted.

White jug with flat, slightly flared base, flared rim, ridged lip, and loop handle. Central horizontal panel has blue, yellow, and taupe flowers, and green leaves, bordered by horizontal double blue lines. Above and below the central panel are lace designs. The handle is decorated with repeating thick, horizontal bands of blue. There is an oval impression in the base, and the maker's mark (WE).

Rod Puppet3420/96

Bird puppet with a black head carved with designs, some painted yellow or dark green, and a large red beak. A dark blue and yellow ridge extends down the length of the head and bill. The lower jaw moves, and is controlled by a length of plastic cord that is tied to a lever within the head. The jaw has small rectangular sections of rubber attached on either side of the mouth. Three small yellow birds with green, light blue and black spots are carved at the back of the head. The centre bird is largest, with two smaller birds on either side of the head. The puppet has a short burgundy fabric neck.

Rod Puppet3420/94 a-d

Large white winged horse puppet, with a bright pink human head on a long neck with three neckrings, and a length of knotted fabric. The head has a headdress or helmet, has long black hair that hangs to one side, with the hair cut short on the other side. The body has a painted green saddle, with a zigzag line border in multiple colours. There is red fabric lining the chest and abdomen. The legs are attached to the body with metal plates. A pair of large, flat, detachable painted wings (parts b-c) fit into slots on the back. Each wing is red with designs in grey, green, off-white, and yellow. A carved wooden horn-like piece (part d) is detached (possibly used as a tail?).

Model Canoe3421/8 a-e

Model canoe (part a) with a long, tall notched prow, a flat bottom, and blunt stern with a vertical transom. The prow is carved in the shape of a wolf head. Painted with a red interior. Small lightly etched circles decorate both sides of the bow and stern. There are four thwarts or benches across the width. Two shorter paddles have red blades (parts b-c) and two paddles have green blades (parts d-e).
