Wooden plaque-like mask. Flat, demon-like face, with wide eyes, wide nose and four small tusk-like teeth, in centre of plaque. Face is wearing a dark gold, scalloped headdress, forming the top edge of the plaque. Central semi-circle on headdress with carved details, painted in red and black. Bottom edge of headdress bordered with black and red bands. Linear and geometric motifs carved throughout. Black and gold horns painted on either side of headdress. Mouth is open and has white teeth along the top edge. Stylized flames(?), painted red, gold and black, extend from both sides of the mouth. Flames(?) form the left and right sides of the plaque. Mouth and tongue are painted dark red, gums are pink. Area around mouth painted black with gold stripes throughout. Face is painted white, with black highlights around the cheeks and chin. Eyes are painted orange and yellow, rimmed in red. Brows protruding over eyes painted black. Mask has hole for mouth. Entire back is painted red.

Tapa Cloth3439/5

Small rectangular tapa cloth. Solid rectangular border. Within, two rows of repeating designs - repeating narrow oval shapes, tapering to a point at each end, with repeating triangles within and flanked by petal shapes that curl inwards to the ovals. Only one side of cloth is painted.

Mask3439/1

Carved and painted wood mask. The mask is long and thin, with a long nose that curves and connects with the mouth area. The eyes are inlaid cowrie shells within a painted black area. The jaw and mouth area are also inlaid with two rows of cowrie shells - small shells around the interior, and larger shells around the outer edge. The jaw is lined with dark brown plant fibre beard on a braided cord. At the top centre of the head is a hole with a short length of braided plant fibre tied looped through.

Square ceramic tile with a floral motif painted on front. Surface is glazed. Background is white. Flower-like shapes in the top left and bottom right corners of the tile, surrounded by three dark blue circles. Central design of a lavender blue and dark-red purple flower, with pointed petals, growing out of the bottom left corner towards the top right corner of the tile. Stem of flower is yellow-brown, with three offshoots on either side. The bottom offshoots have lavender blue flower buds, with dark red-purple tips. The middle offshoots have large dark green leaves. The top offshoots have small dark red flowers. Diagonal ridges on back of tile. Manufacturer’s mark, Maw & Co., stamped in between ridges.

Square ceramic tile with floral motif painted on front. Surface is glazed. Background is cream. Central design of peonies, done in a mix of red tones. The petals are in the top left corner and the stem and leaves are in the bottom right. Dark red curvilinear motifs around the flower. Type of glaze makes design iridescent. Six horizontal ridges, with indents in between the ridges, on back of tile. Manufacturer’s mark, JC Edwards, stamped in between ridges. Three labels, with inscriptions in black ink, on back, along the sides.

Front of tile entirely covered in white flowers, with pale yellow centres, on dark yellow branches. Branches have offshoots with dark yellow and dark green leaves. Seven horizontal ridges on back of tile. Inscriptions stamped in between the ridges. White sticker on back with manufacturer's name, Sherwin & Cotton.

Square ceramic tile with scene painted on front. Surface is glazed. Background is black and all other design components done in dark teal. Central design of two figures, one sitting on a ladder and the other standing on a stool, pulling grapes off a trellis(?). Both have short hair. The figure on the ladder is a female, wearing a dress and high boots. The figure on the stool is a male, wearing shorts and a shirt with the sleeves rolled up. Both are putting the grapes from the trellis(?) into baskets on the back of a donkey, between the two of them. “Autumn” written, in a slight arc, along the top edge of the tile. Raised grid across entire back of tile. Manufacturer's mark, Minton' Hollins & Co., stamped on back. Inscription on back.

Quarter circles in each corner, with scalloped edges and floral motifs inside of them. Small white flowers depicted across surface, with three large circles towards centre of tile. Circles have scalloped edges, with loops, and floral motifs inside of them. The circle closet to the left edge has a crane. Five horizontal ridges on back of tile. Manufacturer’s mark, Mintons China Works, stamped in between ridges. Inscription on back.

Square ceramic tile painted cream with dark brown designs overtop. Surface and sides are glazed. Plain line border along all edges. Tile divided into four sections with plain lines. Top right and bottom left sections have same design. Abstract sun in centre of square sections, surrounded by four smaller star-like designs in the corners. Top left and bottom right sections have similar design. Large quarter circles take up majority of the squares. Quarter circle in the top left section comes to a point in top right corner. Quarter circle in the bottom right section comes to a point in top left corner. Both circles have floral motifs inside them. The top left quarter circle has a white band along its edge, the bottom right one has a dark brown band. Next to the circles, in both sections, are butterflies with angular wings. Five horizontal ridges on back of tile. Manufacturer’s mark, Maw & Co. Ld., stamped between ridges.
