Shadow Puppet1568/4

Shadow puppet (wayang kulit) representing the character Petruk. Two dimensional, tall, thin man with articulated shoulders and elbows; arms have rods of horn from hands; another long, horn rod has central split and goes up height of puppet on both sides. Man is of a translucent skin with opaque painted decorations of shoes, bracelets, skirt, necklace, earrings, and facial features. Decorations are painted on both sides. Skirt is of a black and gold triangle design with red outlines; waist has a row of red and green alternating triangles above a row of green and gold triangles; fringe is in orange, blue, and white. Shoes are black with gold decoration. Head has braid of dark hair through a hole at the back of the painted hair area; strands of red string tie end of braid.

Model Paddle2639/1

Model paddle features a painted composition on each side of the blade: on one side is an eagle, painted primarily in red with a re-curved beak and black detailing; on the opposite side is a raven, painted primarily in black with a less sharply curved beak and red detailing. The compositions are abstracted to fit the elongated shape of the paddle blade. Ovoid elements. Handle is unpainted.

Loon HeaddressA6102

Loon headdress. Loon is positioned as if in a swimming/seated position, and has a red and yellow beak, light green around its eyes, a grey body and black, red and light green ovoid designs on each wing. There is a hole carved through the central upper back area. The underside is carved out to fit on top of a person's head.

Wooden, carved, thunderbird mask with a short curved beak and circular cutout ‘horns’ attached to the head. The beak is hinged with pieces of leather on either side; now nailed shut. The beak and outer eye area are painted blue with red edging on the nose and mouth. The eyes are white with wood and red paint outline; brow is black. The inside is hollow. The mask is painted blue, red, black and white with Northwest Coast stylized designs.
