A plain shaft that is bound at the base with fibre. There is a long black, red, and white geometric patterned point which is elaborately carved with a vertically linear ? design below and triangular projections above. The tip of the point ends in an elongated cone. The end of the shaft is notched.

Bentwood BoxA3573 a-b

Tall square bentwood box (part a) with flat lid (part b). The front and back are painted red and black in different Northwest Coast stylized distributive designs. The front figure has bird-like features with a central circle for a beak and talons along the outer edge. The back also has bird-like features with a crest made of u and split u-forms. The side panels have a faded red design of an ovoid with two u-forms attached near the bottom left corner. The box is pegged together at the side seam and on the bottom.

Eagle FigureA8068

Carved wooden figure in the shape of an eagle with spread wings. The wood grain creates a pattern of horizontal lines on the wings, which is visible through the yellow paint which covers them. The head of the bird is also painted yellow with red and black detailing. The body of the eagle is painted black and there is a carved groove to outline the legs.

Canoe ProwA8073

Carved wooden figure depicting a mythical sea wolf. The figure sits upon a small base. It has a wolf's head with prominent nostrils and bared teeth and small ears that extend backwards above the eyes. Below the head are two coils of a serpent's body. The serpent's body has incised cross-hatch designs and larger painted diamond markings. Black, red, and orange paint accentuate these designs.

Basketry hat with brim of a mixed twined weave -chevron twilled design in diagonal twined weave (also known as 'skip-stitch') against ground of plain twined weave. Crown has a three strand twined weave with top of crown being mostly in plain twined weave (i.e. 2-strand twined weave). Inner hat band: diagonal twined weave. Colours: red, green, black.

HatA3239

Basketry hat with painted designs and a flared brim. The warps are made of red cedar bark and a small square of checkerboard plaiting is present at the top. The hat is woven of triangle sedge grass, using double strand twining. The warps are divided after several rows and the weaving becomes finer. Green-dyed grass has been used in several areas as an accent combined with the use of three strand twining. The painted design is of a male figure with hands upraised, flanked on either side by fish or whale figures. The paint is a dark green colour and badly faded. The rim of the hat is finished with dyed grass and a black yarn-like material. The hat has a cap-shaped liner woven into its interior. The liner is diagonally twined.

A painted brown wood mask of a hawk. The green outlined cut out pupils of the eyes are surrounded by a green area. The eyebrows are black, and the forehead is red. The hook curved beak has red lips with red dashes around the lower mouth area and a black area under the chin.
