String PuppetEh150

Wooden puppet of a standing bovine animal, with a single hump over its shoulders. The hindquarters, tops of the front legs, shoulders and the neck are covered with burlap. The head is detached from the body, connected only by a sleeve of burlap. There is a cavity underneath the stomach. The face is painted white with black and red rimmed eyes, a red mouth, and articulated horns and ears. A lead line of twined cord is looped through the nostrils.

Inside there is a stack of sixty-one flat rectangular cards (part c) with various print designs. In order from top to bottom: seven cards have a grasshopper musician on the top left corner and two ants carrying an object on the bottom right corner, six cards have a fox on the bottom right corner looking up at purple grapes on the top left corner, six cards have a rabbit on the bottom right corner with a turtle at the top of a sunrise hill on the top left corner, eight cards have an animal on the bottom right corner with a frog on a pad on the top left corner, nine cards have a diamond and an orange jelly bean on the bottom right corner and a rooster with two chicks on the top left corner, two cards have a green stem with two yellow flowers in profile on the bottom right corner, two cards have a yellow and a blue flower on the bottom right corner, two cards have a green stem with one pink flower in profile at the top and one pink flower open toward the viewer at the bottom on the bottom right corner, three cards have a green stem and two yellow flowers open toward the viewer at the bottom right corner, two cards have a green stem and two pink flowers in profile on the bottom right corner, four cards have one three-leaf clover and one four-leaf clover on the top left corner, three cards have a green stem with a pink flower angled open from the viewer at the top and a bud at the bottom on the top left corner, two cards have a pink rose and a bud on the top left corner, three cards have a dark blue flower and a bud on the top left corner, and two cards have light blue flowers with yellow centres and a bud on the top left corner.

She is holding a green stick (part b) that has a cylinder that is perpendicularly attached to the stick in her right hand. Her right arm angles backward.

Picture frame in the shape of a thunderbird. Front side is decorated with red and black paint detail; picture area is crest shaped and has glass in it; a raised border is around the picture area and has black paint around its edges. Back side has cardboard backing in picture area that is held on by four swinging wooden clasps; two metal hooks have string attached for hanging frame.

Round mask of a cat-like animal. Face has two protruding blue coloured bumps above the eyes, has a bulbous bump in between the eyes and above the nose, has two protruding yellow and dark-red eye brow ridges, two protruding black and white eyes, a wide yellow and dark-red protruding snout and cheek bone area, and an incised mouth with long and wide multi coloured tongue hanging from the mouth. Green, blue, red, and natural coloured raffia(?) is tied around the perimeter of the mask, on top of the head, and underneath the nose. The animal has two red, orange, and yellow ears that are attached to the mask with metal wire.

A deep oval wood dish with pointed ends and four conical legs with a double-side-by-side triangular protrusion through which a fibre rope loops around the middle. Inside the dish there are two pieces of tape, one reads "CEREMONIAL DISH", the other reads "FIJI".

A long cylindrical skin handle with circular protrusions all around that have some plant fibre weaving decoration. The top end of the handle has a looped skin band painted with red dots connected by a brown zig zag line. The bottom end of the handle flares out with skin strands from which grey hair flows down.
