Humanoid mask with horizontal black and orange lines across forehead and face, circular holes for eyes, an angular mouth and nose, prominent brow ridge, black moustache-like markings and a black chin. A tuft of newspaper strips protrudes from a small hole on top of the forehead. Green cord is tied to several holes at the back of the mask.

Nunlhamgila puppet. Wooden male, articulated figure, in a box. Consisting of various pieces of wood, the rectangular body has two carved arms attached to it with pieces of leather. The head is made from a separate piece and sits on a dowel. He moves by means of two spools of string placed in the back of the box. Attached to the spools are parts of a Buckinghams cigarettes box; one has ‘rite hand’ written, the other ‘left hand’. The chest and arms of the man are painted black, the head is black. The face has black brow, large black eyes on a white background while the nose and lips are painted red. The puppet is mounted in a rectangular shaped, cedar box with a rim.

Whale MaskA1596

Mask or headdress representing a whale with moveable dorsal fin, tail fin, and pectoral fins, a large flat mouth with a movable lower jaw, and cylindrical nostrils. The mask is painted black with concentric circles and ovals on the sides and head in white and red. The face is painted with black eyebrows,bordered in red and white, green around the eyes, black with an abstract white design on the cheeks, red and black designs above the white and red nostrils, black above the upper lip, and red lips. The fins are painted with designs in black, red, and white. Original tail flukes have been replaced by plain wooden carved pieces with painted and sewn cardboard cut-outs attached above.

Three head rings - each consisting of a printed cotton cloth-covered strip of bark. A strip of red-dyed cedar bark is sewn around the outside of each band. A cardboard cutout fish with details drawn in red crayon is sewn to each band.

Wolf headdress, or mask. The mask is painted with black eyebrows, grey around the eyes, a red and white design beside the eyes, a black and white snout, red nostrils and lips, and white teeth. Elongated snout that dips downwards just before the brow, prominent nostrils, and an open mouth with bared teeth. It has cardboard for the ears, under the lower jaw and on the crown. Branch frame at base on reverse and knotted cord attached at top reverse.
