Part of a forehead ornament (kapkap) made of tortoise shell. The carved shell ornament has four long points at bottom, with two holes bored through the shell at centre above, and three spines supporting a series of open triangles. The ornament is tied, at multiple points, by cotton thread onto the back of a trimmed postcard. String puppet (marioneta) representing the character Venus. Puppet wears a very long dark pink skirt, and a short dark pink top with plastic round nipples attached to the outside. Her hair is also pink; clear plastic points project from the back of her head. Her midriff is exposed, showing very pale 'skin', like her face. Her lips are painted dark red. Her eyes appear to be glass balls. Her hands are carved of wood. Artist's inscription at base of body.
String puppet (marioneta) of the character Jupiter. Puppet wears a long off-white cotton robe with gold coloured grasses hanging around the outside and a gold coloured crown made of individual curved strips of metal with dark blue stone pieces attached to each. There is a painted paper collar that wraps around his neck and down the front; the arms are similarly constructed; the hands are carved of wood.
Vejigante carnival mask of painted paper mache construction. Mask is mainly painted yellow, with cut-out holes at the eyes and mouth. The eyes are outlined in a red dotted design, with yellow and red flame-like brow projections above. Six long curved horns project outward at the top and sides, four green at the sides and back and two multicoloured at the top. The snout has a large open mouth with two upper white canine teeth. Signed and dated inside. (Horn repaired since photograph.)
Headband (part of a girl’s costume, with 3052/1-8). A thin metal wire is wrapped with brown paper and covered with a variety of stiffened flowers in red, blue, pink and white, interspersed with green leaves. Each red flower has a centre of black wool with spots of white paint, while white flowers have centres made of yellow wool. The wire band is bendable.
White plastic wedding bouquet holder. The holder consists of a plastic handle connected to a foam mount which is decorated with synthetic white ribbons, tulle and light green paper vines with white synthetic leaves. The vines and leaves extend from the holder and are wrapped in white tulle.
