Mask in the form of an animal, possibly a wolf, dog or bear, with separate pointed ear attachments (the proper left ear has a section missing) and a protruding snout. It is painted with black, red, and white pigments. Under the chin is a white leather tassel that is secured by a knot inside. On both sides of the mask are holes, probably for wearer to secure object. There are two holes in the eyes and nose. The mouth is partially open revealing two sets of sharp teeth towards the front. The object is in fair and stable condition. There are nine reattached fragments along the proper left edge as well as two reattached fragments at the top of the head. There are indications of old insect damage and loss of wood around the mask's edges and base. The leather tassel is dry. Note: although this photogrpah show the mask as 'blue' the paint has darkened to where it looks black. Would be a good conservation example to clean.

Sheath for a large knife of rawhide partly painted red with beaded decoration in white, orchid, blues, red and yellow. The sheath is also studded with a few nails along the edge. A triangle is cut out from the hide on one side. This is part of the group purchased as belonging to Red Cloud.

Long staff with knobs along the handle. The top is a larger knob with a face engraved into one side. Similar staffs are used for Sioux Warrior Societies and there is a possibility this staff was used as such and is not Caddo but Sioux.

This is a long, thin whistle with only one hole in the beak of a bird with metal tacks for eyes. The bird's head is carved at the end and painted blue-green on the outside and red on the inside. The nostril slits are also painted red. The stop is a piece of birch bark held in place with a sinew wrapping. Jarvis (the collector) original inscription reads, "Indian Flute Chippeway."

After review by several different consultants these mocassins are probably Commanche, although there is a possibility they are Kiowa. Yellow painted mocassins with a beaded arrow design in white, red ,and green on the vamp.

This is a flat pipe stem of the "trick" type. Geometrically shaped cutouts were made in the center of the stem and the un-initiated had to guess how the smoke traveled through it. Decorated with red and blue-green paint, it shows slash marks made with a hot metal file for added decoration.

Plains type man's case , Blackfoot, probably, because design of the bear claw and the parallel lines although the case does have a wide border and curve elements not usually seen as Blackfoot. This might have held sacred objects or a rolled up headdress. Might be missing a top piece otherwise in good condition. Sioux, possibly and Northern for sure.
