Miniature Spear3557/13

Spear sealed inside a plastic bag; bag is secured shut with a paper manufacturer's label stapled over the opening. Spear has a long cylindrical shaft, that tapers towards the base, and a leaf-shaped point; both are made of palm wood. Point has cross guard-like protrusions at the base, and is secured to shaft with plant fibre ties. Black bands decorate length of point. Light blue card inserted into bag, behind spear, with image of person holding two spears; paragraph of text describes materials, decoration, and uses of spears.

Miniature Broom3557/3

Broom sealed inside a plastic bag; bag is secured shut with a paper manufacturer's label stapled over the opening. Broom has a short wood handle and dried seed pods at the end, for brush bristles. The pods are bunched together with two wide, woven plant fibre bands; bands are adhered to wood, seed pods, and one another with resin(?). Red card inserted into bag, behind broom, with images of a person sweeping, and one of the broom itself; paragraph of text describes materials, how it's made, and uses.

Shell Money3557/15

Shell rings on a braided plant fibre cord sealed inside a plastic bag; bag is secured shut with a paper manufacturer's label stapled over the opening. Large white ring hangs from bottom of cord; channels carved through middle on front and back of ring. Smaller flat shell rings are threaded through the cord on either side of large ring. Yellow card inserted into bag, behind shell rings, with images of shells and an individual wearing it; paragraph of text describes rings and their purpose.

Oval basket with handle. Flat oval base with high raised edges made of coiled flexible sticks(?) bound together with vertical plant fibre stitching. Overall repeating diamond pattern on both exterior and interior worked in darker colours. Attached rounded handle is composed of four firm sticks(?) stitched together, with the outer two pieces plaited. The handle is stitched to the interior of the basket's raised edges at centre.

Mask3603/1

Dome-shaped plant fibre mask. A cylindrical protrusion extends from top centre of mask, tapering to a thin woven tail; long pieces of braided fringe hang from bottom edge. Sides of mask are covered with nine woven bands, made up of different patterns. From top to bottom, designs are: plain brown, alternating black and natural, alternating brown and grey-brown, plain natural, alternating brown and grey-brown, alternating black and natural, alternating brown and natural, black, and alternating natural and faded green. Top of mask and cylindrical protrusion are light brown; fringe is mix of light and dark brown. Circular eye holes cut out on front of mask with tall walls surrounding them; pieces of bark(?) attached around cutouts, consisting of a vertical rectangle with a deep "V" cutout from the top edge, creating thin triangles above eye holes.

Necklace3596/9

Round beaded neck ring with small rectangular panel at front; mounted on cow leather. Main body of necklace consists of thirteen strands of glass and seed beads in encircling rows, becoming successively smaller in size towards centre. Rows are (from interior to exterior): dark blue, dark red, alternating yellow and black, alternating yellow and black, orange, dark blue, white, alternating red and black, white, dark blue, red, and alternating black and white. Beaded semi-circles, with plain metal charms, protrude from either side of neck ring. Panel at front of necklace is decorated with two columns, divided by a small piece of wood; done in orange, dark blue, white, light green, and dark red. Columns have a repeating diamond motif through the centre with inverted triangles on either side. Circular metal charms extend from either side of panel; long beaded fringe, tipped with cowrie shells, extends from bottom edge. Necklace secures at back with two hook clasps; additional metal charms decorate edges around clasps. (Beaded fringe has mostly detached from necklace.)
