Mask2821/12

Mask representing a woman-butterfly. The head and bare breasts are of a female human, whereas the lower body, wings and antennae are of a butterfly. The woman has long black hair and red skin. The wings are decorated on each side with a flower on the lower wing and a foliage-like pattern in the upper segment. Mask carved of wood, then coated in a plaster-like substance, before being painted.

Retablo Altar2862/31

Retablo of St. Marcos. The altar is rectangular, topped by a painted pediment. Two long vertical doors open on the front, and are attached to the altar by leather hinges. The doors are painted on the outside with a cross and swirled patterns, and on the inside with flowers, leaves, circles and lines. Inside the altar are two sets of plaster figures. The top set consists of four saints: St. Paul, St. Ines, John the Baptist and an unidentified saint holding a book and staff. Smaller figures stand in front of the saints and include animals and humans. In the bottom set of figures are a group of musicians, several sheep and goats, shepherds, and a woman with pottery.

Retablo Altar2862/30

Small retablo altar of St. Anthony. Altar has a door attached by metal pins, opening on the left where it can be secured by two pieces of braided fibre rope at the mid-point. The outside is painted with designs: curved orange lines and green dots on the long sides, and the outline of a cross on the front. A painted pediment sits atop the altar. The interior side of the door is painted with a flower and leaves. Inside the altar are several plaster figures. The central is St. Anthony holding a child and a branch, and beside him is a skull and cross bones. On the side wall is another figure of St Anthony, also holding a child and branch. The third figure, standing on the bottom of the altar, is a shepherdess with two small animals.

Parrot mask with a green head and a grey beak. Black and yellow horizontal lines distinguish beak from parrot face. Top of head has repeating pattern of white, red and black horizontal stripes on top of green base colour. Eyes are raised circular holes outlined in red, yellow and black, with white and brown porcupine quills(?) inserted and radiating outwards in a circle. Mouth outlined with red and black line. Red nostrils. Mask is carved from wood. Appears to have been coated in plaster before painting.

Mask of a large male head with full beard. Face is red, eyes are dark green and off-white. Purple-brown beard and curls around forehead are shaped as stylized ringlets; moustache is curled at ends. Male is wearing a brown-bronze, dome-shaped helmet with a gold coloured flat rim, decorated with black lines and circles. Base of mask is made of wood, while face and helmet appear to be made from plaster.
