Hand PuppetIa60 a-b

Costumed cloth hand puppet with carved, painted wooden head, hands and feet. Represents character of Old Male (aggressive, with Daoist headgear and magical powers), Golden Rays style. Varnished white face, pink cheeks, yellow hair, gold, green and red crown. Black, yellow and red details on face. Yellow dyed hair beard attached at slits in chin. Body (part a), undyed cotton flaps, attached around head, attached white hands with holes through sideways, partially stuffed with paper, stuffed legs of pink and yellow patterned cotton, attached white and blue-green soled black boots. Pasted and stitched green silk robe (part b), orange and red silk border, green silk at front side edges, also inside front. Decorations include blue tin edged mirrors, red and green plastic sequins, white and pink fur trim. Centre front and back design of dragon in multiple rows of silver foil wrapped thread, pink plastic 'pearl' eyes, red and blue cord. Wrapped thread circle to upper left of centre. Detachable robe attached with cord at neck. Legible purple characters in oval on puppet flap.

Mask depicting a humanoid face (sanni demon mask), pink with black painted hair as well as black on the end of the nose, and at the jaw. Painted black hair and eyebrows. The mask also has slightly protruding eyes with black rims, and a crescent-shaped hole underneath each eye. White plastic teeth and two outwardly curved fangs emerge from under a fur moustache, and the bottom teeth are attached to a plastic bottom lip, which is sewn to a black knit beard. Reverse has a label, which reads, " 'Bada' stomach sanni"; number "650". A strap, composed partly of twined plant fibre and partly cotton string, is attached at the back.

Mask with black painted face, a nose with two bumps on the bridge, flaring nostrils, a moustache made of dark brown hair, and bulging eyes, each with a semicircular socket decorated with radiating black lines and yellow and red bands that follow the curve. Painted white vertical lines decorate the nose, and curved white lines indicate wrinkles at the centre of the forehead as well as below each eye. Each eye also has a crescent-shaped hole beneath it. The mouth has a red fabric upper lip only and from which white plastic teeth and curved fangs protrude. A braid made of black woven hair ? is attached around the edge of the mask. Twined fabric ties attached to reverse.

The necklace, with neck band width of three beads, has the majority of beads in alternating black and white, the rest alternating in red and black, and in red and white; strings of alternating white and black beads dangle from the neck band. A button secures the necklace around the neck.

Small, wooden humanoid mask painted in glossy dark green. Rounded forehead, black painted eyebrows. Large white painted eyes outlined in red with large black pupils; the plane of the eye socket slopes sharply backward and the eyes are bulging out of their sunken sockets. Slits for vision under the eyes, small bulbous nose with red nostrils; black beard and moustache of applied fabric, possibly wool. Open, downturned mouth with red lips; applied upper teeth cut from a single piece of plastic tacked to back of mask with the words "Perfumed Talc 100 gm" printed on back. The jaw is movable and affixed on either side with wire and red cord threaded through small holes. A fabric cord of red and dirty white is tied through each eye slit to attach mask to head of wearer. The mask appears to have an undercoat of orange paint. At the rear of the mask at the top is written in pencil, "abata undness".
