Baby Carrier2964/1

Heavily beaded baby carrier. The back piece is made of a thick, flat board of wood, rounded at top, narrowing considerably toward bottom, covered in hide. The front top of the board is beaded with a pattern of flowers of (from top) blue, brown, red and yellow with blue, all attached to green vines with leaves. The background is white beads. The bottom front half of the board is a leather tie-up bag with a canvas collar into which a baby can be placed. Over this is black velvet, beaded with three multicoloured, large flowers connected by a black and white vine. Green scalloped material edges the apron. The back side is red fabric with a blue and yellow flower pattern. On the back of the carrier is a belt attached at both sides.

Rey Caporal Mask2946/3 a-g

Black and gold "Rey Caporal" mask (part a) with large bristly black beard and silver pipe and hat. Blue eyes are framed by fine gold tinsel. The mouth has six white teeth and a thick bottom lip, which fades from pink to blue and is decorated with white and black stripes. The tongue is red with a silver border. Curling black hair wraps around the back of the head into the beard. The beard has a white, tarp-like backing. The hat has a box at the front, resting on the brim, which contains five tubes for the five woolly sticks (parts b-f). The sticks alternate colours without the outside and centre sticks having yellow tops and brown bases, and the other two sticks having white tops and yellow bottoms. A cardboard placard (part g) with gold trim sits in front of the sticks.

Artificial Limb2950/4

Hand-made artificial limb. The knee height leg is constructed of wood, rubber and metal. The limb is made of a single piece of wood carved into a cylinder wider at top and narrowing toward the ankle. The cylinder is sliced in half from top down to ankle, allowing it to be adjusted in size. The artificial limb is attached to the wearer’s leg by an encircling piece of wire that is twisted using a short wooden rod to tighten and close the slats. A small rubber plate is attached at bottom by nails for a foot. A fabric handle is attached to the leg at top and ankle.

Artificial Limb2950/3

Hand-made artificial limb. The knee height leg is constructed of wood, rubber and metal. The limb is made of a single piece of wood carved into a cylinder wider at top and narrowing toward the ankle. The cylinder is sliced in half from top down to ankle, allowing it to be adjusted in size. The slats are held in place by a wire at the ankle and a circle of metal at the top holding a piece of wire that is tightened to close the slats. A fabric handle, tan in colour with a green edge, is connected to the encircling metal. The foot is made of rubber and attached to the leg by nails and has a wooden toe-piece.

Artificial Limb2950/2

Hand-made artificial limb. Made from a single piece of wood carved into a thigh height leg, wide at the thigh and narrowing toward the ankle, with a discernible knee. The thigh is hollowed out to the knee. A short blunted foot is carved at bottom, with a pad of rubber attached to back and bottom. Leather thongs are wrapped around the ankle and upper thigh, where a piece of leather protrudes holding a system for buckling that includes two metal rings.

Artificial Limb2950/1 a-b

Hand-made artificial limb. Made from a single piece of wood that was carved into a thigh height leg, wide at the thigh and narrowing toward the ankle, with a discernible knee. The thigh is hollowed out to the knee. A thick, oblong piece of rubber serves as a foot and is attached to the base of the leg with nails. There are no articulations in the limb. Part b is a large portion of the top of the thigh that has broken off.

Jacket2958/1

Hide jacket with beadwork designs and button front. The jacket length is to the waist, open at front with button closure. The buttons are covered with leather. A flower with a long green stem and coloured leaves is beaded on each side of the jacket. Pockets sit at the hip and are decorated at the top with beaded diamond shapes in green and orange. The underside of the pocket flaps is covered in a green and white flower pattern. The cuffs also hold beaded diamond shapes, in red, burgundy and a clear bead. On the back of the jacket is a line of four inch fringe at the midway appoint, above which are three beaded flowers, in blue and clear beads, with green stems and colourful beaded leaves.

Processional Banner2946/29

Gold and dark burgundy religious banner with image of St. Martin of Porres in the centre. Large, velvet, burgundy processional banner with gold trim and an ovular plastic picture of San Martin de Porres at centre. The saint, wearing a black robe, holds a cross and broom. A dog, cat, mouse and bird are all gathered around his feet. There are three black velvet ties along the top edge. Gold words read San Martin de Porres at the top of the banner . The bottom has a scalloped edge and is decorated with gold fringe. Two gold birds have been embroidered near the top of the banner above embroidery of curving, floral vines. The vines are embellished with sequins and two emerald plastic beads.

King Mask2946/2

Moreno king mask, with a silver crown and gold pipe. The blue eyes are framed by spiky eyelashes which fade from orange at the base to yellow, green and blue at the tips. The thick, furrowed eyebrows are dark blue. At the top of the forehead there are two flame-shaped projections which curl back towards the crown. The ears are green on the inside and have seven yellow and red flame-like points around the outside. The tips of the flames, the eyebrows, the wrinkles around the eyes, the chin and the front of the crown are decorated with silver glitter.

Devil Mask2946/8

Large devil mask of red and yellow painted tin. Mask has two split-end horns, a golden crown and a large dragon at the top. The nose’s four high ridges are edged with gold beads. The bulging eyeballs have reflective plastic red pupils surrounded by a chain of golden beads. The eyes are also edged with a red feather garland. The large flame-like ears are decorated with lines of golden beads. Each of the mask’s two horns splits at the middle into two points, each topped with a rubber triangle. The edges of the horns are red. The top of the head has four stud-trimmed wavy triangles. The middle two have red plastic discs and all four have gold bead trim. The five-point crown is gold with a red front panel and a beaded trim. A winged yellow dragon rises up from the centre of the crown. It has a short pronged tongue and red plastic eyes. The wings, ears, and eyes of the dragon are decorated with golden beads.
