Miniature Adze3557/2

Adze sealed inside a plastic bag; bag is secured shut with a paper manufacturer's label stapled over the opening. Adze has a long cylindrical shaft with an acute-angled haft at the end. Smooth stone, wedge-shaped blade inserted into notch at end of haft; secured in notch with three bands of braided rattan and resin(?). Adze is undecorated. Blue card inserted into bag, behind adze, with images of person using an adze, and one of an adze by itself; paragraph of text describes materials, and how it was made.

Small shield sealed inside a plastic bag; bag is secured shut with a paper manufacturer's label stapled over the opening. Shield is oval-shaped with two holes drilled into either side, towards centre; rattan cord knotted through holes, for holding purposes. Hourglass-like shape carved across surface, with triangles protruding from either side in centre; curvilinear motif incised in middle. Hourglass-like shape done in black, outline of hourglass and curvilinear motif done in dark brown. Orange card inserted into bag, behind shield, with images of person using a shield and spear, and one of a shield by itself; paragraph of text describes materials, how it was used, and decorations.

Miniature Hammer3557/6

Sago hammer sealed inside a plastic bag; bag is secured shut with a paper manufacturer's label stapled over the opening. Hammer consists of a bamboo head with a wood handle, lashed together with rattan fibre. Top of wood handle is split in half and bamboo head is inserted into it. A twisted rattan cord is wrapped around the tip of the head and base of the handle, giving hammer a triangular shape. Orange card inserted into bag, behind hammer, with image of person using it; paragraph of text describe materials, and how the hammer is made.

Salt Container3563/4 a-b

Woven rattan container with wooden lid. The round container is made of wood, covered in rattan basketry on the sides; rounded wood base. There are two small woven loop handles on the sides near the top. The wooden stopper (part b) is carved into a wedge shape, with a round plug that fits into the top of the container. An adhesive label on the base reads: "Ceremonial salt container".

Armband3563/1

Boar tusk armband, with small bulul figure (rice deity). The main armband section is made of curved boar tusks, with the ends attached together using rattan basketry strands, to form a circle. At one side of the band, a small male wooden figure is attached, using rattan strands threaded through holes in the base and around the legs. The figure is in a sitting position with his knees up. The figure has a round bundle of black and grey feathers projecting upward from his head. Tangkil boar’s tusk armlet (sometimes referred to as an upper arm bracelet or armband) with a small standing wooden “Bulul” figurine from Ifugao tribe in Northern Luzon, Philippines. Worn on upper arm by men. Made of boar’s tusk. Men wear a pair of these during ceremonies and rituals such as the begnas ritual for the rice production. This material is now considered an heirloom. Nowadays, this ornament is popularly reproduced and worn during cultural festivals.
