Coiled basket with bifurcated stitches; parallel splint base construction fully beaded and imbricated. The design consists of imbricated red squares alternating with beaded bullrush squares (checkerboard); the red squares become elongated near rim. Six rawhide ties. Colour: tan.
Great Raven Hamsiwe’ mask. The large, carved, wooden mask has a long beak with large red, coil-shaped nostrils, with a red and white split u-form behind it. The mouth is red with two braided cedar handles on each side. The beak is black with large u-forms outlined in white along the edge of the mouth. The bottom part of the beak is hinged with large diamond shaped pieces of metal. The face has white split u-forms behind the eyes along with a white wing-like shape. The bulging eyes are black, outlined in white and red on a white ovoid shaped ground; brow is black. The underside of the beak is black with an ovoid shaped pink face with black brow, moustache and eyes along with red nostrils and mouth. Emerging from the top of the head is an elongated, protruding rounded section painted with white u-forms. The face is decorated with small cedar bundles; large cedar handles on bottom of beak. The inside of the mask is hollow with the exception of a piece of fibre twine that articulates the beak and two leather straps with metal buckles to hold the mask to the wearer. Attached at the top ridge is a dyed cedar rope and a rubber crest of u-shaped pieces painted red. The left side has a thick braid of cedar. The mask is painted black, white and red.
Very thick multi-strand ring of dark orange-red cedar bark rope. Braided appearance. Bundles of lengths of thin twisted cedar bark rope tied to the main ring in two places. Bundle of shredded cedar bark also tied to the main ring.
One fragmented net weight binding. It consists of the wood splint and the cedar binding. A bag of loose fragments is associated with the fragment. There is also a stone with accretions associated with this object. The stone is directly labled in black ink.
A fragment of red cedar bark checker plaited basket with an attached handle. There is one decorative band of close plain twining. The selvage is present. A bag of loose fragments is associated with the fragment.
Four large plated basketry fragments labed 13, 13A, 13B, 13D. Fragments appear to be made of red cedar bark. 13D has an associated handle. 13A, 13B, and 13D all have associated bags with loose small material. Two large plated basketry fragments labe 13C and 13F are stored on the tray below samples mentioned above. They too appear to be made of red cedar bark. Both 13C and 13F have associated bags with loose debris. Field specimen inventory sheet identified object as net weight.
