The item search helps you look through the thousands of items on the RRN and find exactly what you’re after. We’ve split the search into two parts, Results, and Search Filters. You’re in the results section right now. You can still perform “Quick searches” from the menu bar, but if you’re new to the RRN, click the Search tab above and use the exploratory search.

Burden basket. Rectangular with three separated rows of animal designs covering all four sides. The figures are reddish-brown bark, with a lighter (yellowish) grass as background. The upper outside edge is reinforced with a rectangular loop of thick metal (telegraph) wire, held on with hide and fibre loops. The inside base is reinforced with a rectangular loop of root, bent at three corners.
Small woven basket. Basket flares widely from a small round base toward lip. Construction is grass fibre woven around sedge root into a tube, thin at bottom centre, thickening as it winds up to rim. Red-brown dyed grass is used to create an irregular pattern of lines and triangles extending from base to top in shades of brown and red brown. This is visible on both interior and exterior of basket.
Woven basket. Basket flares widely from a small round base toward lip. Construction is grass fibre woven around sedge root into a tube, narrow at bottom centre, thickening as it winds up to rim. Brown dyed grass is used to create open diamond shaped patterns extending from rim to base, with a smaller, closed diamond in a light brown inside. This is visible on both interior and exterior of basket.
Woven basket. Basket flares widely from a small round base toward lip. Construction is grass fibre woven around sedge root into a tube, narrow at bottom centre, thickening as it winds up to rim. Red-brown dyed grass is used to create a seven-petal flower at bottom centre, with corresponding colour blocks extending down from rim. This is visible on both interior and exterior of basket.
Woven basket. Basket flares widely from a small round base toward lip. Construction is grass fibre woven around sedge root into a tube, narrow at bottom centre, thickening as it winds up to rim. Brown dyed grass is used to create a diagonal checkered pattern across the inside and exterior of the basket. Rim is fully brown.
Woven basket for winnowing grain. Basket is low and shallow, flaring widely from a small base toward lip. Construction is grass fibre woven around sedge root into thick tubes, winding up from bottom centre to rim. Brown dyed grass is used to create a pattern of triangles across the inside and exterior of the basket. Offset concentric circles of brown decorate the base.
Strainer is tubular in shape, long, woven of twisted sedge (loli) fibres, with strands tied off at top, and bunched and tied at bottom. A loop is incorporated in this tie, from which to hang the strainer.
Lidded basket. Basket is round, flaring at the midpoint and narrowing toward the rim. It is made of coiled root overlaid with thin strips that are woven tightly around the root, and run vertically. The lip is thick, with strips covering it on the diagonal in a herringbone pattern. A stiff handle rises in an arc over the mouth, covered like the rim. Lid (part b) is constructed similar to the basket and fits snuggly inside the mouth. Its handle is round and protrudes from the slightly convex top.
Basketry divided tray. Constructed of cedar slats wrapped in cedar root. Base is rectangular, with short, straight walls. The interior is divided in half by a partition with a rounded top, that sits higher than the basket edge, with a handle hole at centre. Dark red and black cherry bark imbrication decorates the sides of the basket in sets of short diagonal lines.
Basket made of cedar root wrapped slats. Base is a long, thin rectangle with rounded corners, sides flare slightly outward toward the rim. The decoration on the body is alternating horizontal rows of black and red cherry bark, as well as six spaced out black squares (three rows wide) of imbrication on each side. Two hide strap handles are attached just below the rim on the long sides.
