The item search helps you look through the thousands of items on the RRN and find exactly what you’re after. We’ve split the search into two parts, Results, and Search Filters. You’re in the results section right now. You can still perform “Quick searches” from the menu bar, but if you’re new to the RRN, click the Search tab above and use the exploratory search.

Bent bark, square basket with rounded mouth. Rim was lined with fabric, then overcast with root. The outside is decorated with a pattern of alternating golden brown or brown squares between two bands of triangles. (Parts of the rim have thin fibres or plastic string inside.)
Large rectangular, openwork basket. Wide opening. Sides curve down to a small rounded base. Woven handles attached to three upper corners.
Bent horn rattle. Horn serves as handle as well as rattle head, curving over itself to make an enclosed chamber that holds noise-making elements (stones?) inside. Holes are bored through head along edges where metal wire is inserted and tied to hold horn head together. One side has some remnants of blue and white fabric wound around the wire. Wide strands of root are wrapped around the handle.
Carved wooden rattle with stand (part b). Rattle has a round head, relatively flat, with strips of cedar looped around the outer edge. The front is decorated in a blue painted thunderbird motif with white accents, while the back is painted with a black thunderbird. The handle of the rattle is tightly wrapped with a braided cedar rope. The stand (part b) is cone shaped, with a hole at centre top into which the rattle's handle fits in order to hold it upright. The stand is undecorated except for black paint in and around the hole and base.
Basketry violin case. Case in the general shape of a violin, with a long neck and widening of the upper and lower bouts. Lid is attached with two small decorative metal hinges at back, and closes with a hide tie at front. Case is heavily decorated on the exterior with red and black cherry bark and grass beading, in a checkered pattern. A woven cedar bark handle is attached below the front tie closure, attached on one side by a hide loop and the other by a brown and yellow shoelace.

Small woven basket is round, sides flaring slightly toward the inset rim. Design woven into sides is of a fishing boat with three figures harpooning a whale (possibly an orca). Lid is round with short sides that fit snugly onto the basket’s rim. It is decorated with an encircling ring around the rim, and an orange and green flower pattern at top centre. The basket’s coloured designs are very faded on the outside, but bright on the interior.
Basketry covered abalone shell. Large abalone shell is iridescent on the interior, with 4 perforations in the bottom under the rim. It is fully covered on the exterior by a piece of tightly woven basketry that closely takes its shape, and fits around the shell’s rim. Images of whales and birds, and concentric lines on rim and at bottom centre are woven into the basketry.
Basketry covered abalone shell. Large abalone shell (part b) is rough on the outside, smooth and iridescent on the inside, with 5 perforations in the bottom under the rim. It is fully covered on the exterior by a piece of tightly woven basketry (part a) that closely takes its shape. Images woven into the basketry include Canadian Plains style headdresses, ducks, and fish. The interior of the basket has many long end remnants resulting from the weaving process.
Basketry covered glass float. Round float is completely covered in finely woven basketry, with a round woven foot of cedar root. Images in the weave are created with dyed grass and include a green pinwheel on top, large two-footed creatures below, the words “Estevan Point 1943” at midpoint, with several floating ducks at bottom.
