Carved wood mask consisting of an oval shaped head with long thin strands of sennit ? fibre hanging down the sides and back. The face has a large, protruding forehead with a small crocodile carved in relief. The brow is triangular and hangs over the large round, shell inlaid eyes. The nose is raised, long and narrow with large holes through the septum which hold two pieces of fibre twine. The mouth is small and cut deep. Tattoo-like lines of incised dots run over cheeks. Attached to the sides of the head are small sections of fibre rope with fibre loops. The underside is hollow. There is a fibre tie at the top of the mask. The wood is stained black with a brown pigment over top.

Tall conical shape, hallow wooden flute. The body tapers at the top where a head is carved in relief. The head has a slightly pointed top, inlaid cowrie shell eyes, long protruding nose with open nostrils, a wide open mouth and large ears. The face is painted brown with white decorative outlines. The body or flute is incised with repeating bands of curvilinear design. It has a large hole in the centre front with a jagged ridge extending from the hole down to the base. Along the ridges are several brown sennit fibre tufts.

Carved male figure hook, with a crocodile projecting from neck area and pointing downwards with its mouth open. Exposed genital areas and torso with his ribs carved in relief. On the reverse, the figures spine is protruding. The head is crowned or framed by flat m shape headdress decorated with rows cowrie shells and small, dense bundles of sinnet fibres along edges. The face has protruding eyes inlaid with shell and extended nose which reaches into chin. Arms are extended straight along body with open palms that face thighs. Feet attached to carved hook. Hook has a circular carved face protruding out of lower end. The figure is painted with a black pigment then covered in orange clay dust.

Ancestor Spirit FigureIe498

Carved wooden standing figure with his arms hanging down to his bent knees. The face is large and circular with exaggerated protruding eyes inlaid with shell; a long nose bridge and a hollow septum that holds a bundle of fibre. The mouth is slightly triangular in shape with its teeth bared. The head and chest have a repeating triangular geometric pattern carved in relief and painted with orange and white pigment; the stomach has a stylized design around the bellybutton. Bundles of fibres are attached to the ears; fibre cords with fibre bundles are tied around the stomach covering the groan, wrist and ankles. The figure stands on a circular base.

Carved wooden, oval shaped mask representing a face. The top of the head is inlaid with two different types of shells. The forehead is elongated with a ridge down the middle and recessed eyes inlaid with cowrie shells. The nose is protruding and has a section of a boar tusk in each nostril. The mouth is partly open exposing carved teeth. Bundles of sennit fibre line the bottom edge. The mask is painted with orange, black and white pigment. The back is undecorated.

Sago pot (a) has a decorative face at the front of the pot with a protruding, snout-like nose, and a rim around the eyes ornamented with a plant fibre tassel at each side. The pot is painted yellow, black, orange, and white. The pot sits on an open weave bark fibre (?) ring (b).

Mask depicting a long and narrow human face with protruding eyes, a protruding tongue and a recurved nose with the head of a boar-like figure at the chin. The face is heavily encrusted with shells at the edges, and ornamented with black cassowary feathers at the sides. Tusks protrude from the nostrils and the cheeks as well as from the cheeks of the boar-like figure. Sennit fibre tassels are tied through holes along the protruding rod running from the forehead to below the mouth. A loop hanger is attached at the top.

Carved wood mask consisting of a head with an elongated brow; a long nose, mouth and chin. The top of the head is decorated with cassowary feathers and a small tuft of human hair. The face is elaborately detailed with dark blue, light blue and brown stylized designs on a white ground. There is a long, cylindrical shaped piece of wood that stretches from the bottom of the nose to the bottom of the mask; on the end is a small carved bird. The forehead and the side of the face are inlaid with rows of small shells; the eyes and sections of the forehead are detailed with inlaid cowrie shells. The nose has boar tusk on either side. The lower sides and bottom are lined with small bundles of sennit fibre. The bottom tip and the sides have bundles of black feathers.

Conical shaped woven basketry figure with two faces depicted. Top face is larger than the lower face, it has a tapered forehead that ends with a fibre, looped handle and is decorated with small feathers. Both faces have oval shaped holes for eyes, an opening for a mouth, a protruding nose and ears along with sennit fibre beards. Each face is painted white with brown and orange detailing. The bottom edge is wrapped with long pieces of fibre.

Shield carved from one piece of wood with a handle on the reverse that emerges from a raised ridge running from the bottom to the top where it protrudes above the top of the shield with a knob-like finial at the very top. The front is carved with curvilinear designs emphasized with yellow, black and white pigment, and the back is decorated with diamond designs in the same colours. Sennit fibre is knotted though holes along the sides of the shield to form a tassel on each face.
