Shark Headdress2736/7

Realistic representation of shark head is painted bluish gray with carved black eyes and red gill lines. Worn with nose pointing upwards, the beard and the mouth, made up of part of the jaw and teeth of a shark set above a row of squared white wood teeth, are therefore facing forward. The headdress has long strands of grass fibres hanging from the sides and a foam lining around the interior rim. The jaw is held in with nails and two strands of woven synthetic rope are knotted and pulled through holes in the wood.

Intricate geometric designs on tower handle and geometric designs by the string. Tower handle is long and squared in cross section, flaring outward at the bottom. Tower handle has eight windows on each side, totalling thirty-two. Tower handle has twelve small square feet around the bottom edge. Stone head secured by braided string and sharkskin.

A short, wakizashi style sword with a wooden handle and sheath. Handle features black silk cords tied decoratively (tsuka-ito ) over a grey sharkskin covering and a pair of menuki (sword fittings), one on each side of the handle. Sheath has inlaid horn on a black ground. The guard has a prunus design.
