The item search helps you look through the thousands of items on the RRN and find exactly what you’re after. We’ve split the search into two parts, Results, and Search Filters. You’re in the results section right now. You can still perform “Quick searches” from the menu bar, but if you’re new to the RRN, click the Search tab above and use the exploratory search.

Container made from the capsule shell of a brazil nut. Round shell has been cut smoothly in half to create a dish with a lid, with a small flattened foot area on the base. Rough, woody bark has been left in place. Three small round medallions of nutshell have been set into holes carved into the rim of the dish that correspond to holes in the lid, ensuring a tight fit between the two. A cone shaped handle coloured dark brown is attached to the top of the lid, around which is knotted plant fibre, which also encircles the container from top to bottom, further holding the lid in place.
Moon mother mask. A large face protrudes from the centre of a convex oval of wood, with a smaller face both above the forehead and below the chin. Central face has prominent black brows and round, black, staring pupils to either side of a carved vertical ridge. Nose has flared red nostrils, above a wide red mouth with a circular labret in an extended lower lip. The smaller faces are nearly identical but with less carved detail and no labret. The bottom face is upside down. Each has several plugs of long brown hair at top of head. The surrounding oval is painted along its edge with black, red and blue-green stripes, with evenly place inset squares of abalone shell. The back of the mask is concave with chamois ties.
Ten strand shell wealth (tafuli'ae). Very long strands of shell discs are strung on nylon string, with tassels at each end. Most of the shell discs are approximately 0.8 cm diameter. At the centre is a 14 cm long red shell section woven in a net-like pattern. The colour pattern of discs for each side, from there to the ends, is mirrored. At each end of the central design there is a thin bar (clam shell?) drilled with ten holes. The nylon fibre goes through the holes and then forms ten strands of shell discs going off in both directions. The next section (on each side) starts with several white and black discs, then has all dark red and orange-red discs for 18-19 cm. Then a white and black striped section goes on for 21-22 cm, ending in another thin bar with drilled holes. On the other side of the bar the pattern is repeated with the red section. However the next black-white section runs for approx. 36 cm. and the black discs are of a smaller diameter. There are also three stripes of reddish discs incorporated into these last sections. At the ends, the blue string is knotted together, with four half seed pods and red cotton tassels attached. The rest of the blue fibre is braided into a single tail, with the end knotted and singed.
