Gourd bottle with cover. Undecorated drinking gourd for carrying sake is tall, bulbous on bottom, round and elongated on top, capped with a metal neck and stopper. Surface is dark orange. A lighter orange cord is wrapped three times around the waist of the vessel, holding a green stone ring, then passing through a metal loop on the stopper, and finally through a round wooden bead. Part b is a silk carrying bag, rounded at bottom, dark blue with light grey foliage on the outside, and bright red and green on the interior. A brown drawstring closes the bag at neck.
Gourd bottle with box. Gourd is tall, bulbous on top and bottom, with a small bulb emerging from side at top. A stopper (part b) has been carved like a duck bill and fits horizontally into the hole in the bulb. Vessel's patina is a dark orange with a high shine. A lighter orange cord is wrapped several times around the neck of the gourd, with trailing end holding a dark brown wooden hoop. Gourd is filled with small metal balls. Part c is a dark purple and green silk carrying bag with an orange drawstring cord. Parts d and e are the bottom and lid of a light tan wooden carrying box with Japanese characters written in ink directly on the lid top, and on an adhered slip of paper on the underside.
Furisode (振袖) style of kimono displaying a chrysanthemum pattern. Design shows large chrysanthemum flowers in a wide variety of colours, from orange to purple to black, some with leaves edged by gold-leaf embroidery fibre, others with painted gold embellishments. Leaves in several shades of green accompany some of the flowers. The background colour is a light tan, with areas of dark red holding a swirling tan line motif. Kimono is open at the front, with long hanging sleeve panels open toward the body to display a red lining. Small openings for the wrists sit at outside top. The interior torso is lined in tan silk, while the bottom has a lining of red. Bottom hem is slightly padded with fuki (袘).
Hōmongi (訪問着) kimono with a background of dark purple, dyed in a modified chevron pattern design. Images of rolling waves with embroidered whitecaps, flowers of various sizes and colours (some with embroidered centres), fan motifs, lanterns, colour blocks and geometric patterning. Kimono is long, open at the front, with short hanging panels on the sleeves that are open toward the body. Small openings for the wrists sit at outside top. The interior torso, sleeves and lapels of the garment are lined in red silk, while the bottom has a lining of heavily patterned purple.
Kimono made of light grey silk in the Iro tomesode (色留袖) style, hand-painted around the bottom with an image of flowing blue water and waterfalls amongst grey rocks that support pines and other trees. At back is a small enclosed carriage. Tiny flecks of gold embroidery can be seen amongst the stones and foliage. The scene continues on the interior bottom of the kimono. There are five family crests or kamon (家紋) of creeping woodsorrel in a circle known as Kagehoso chūkage katabami (陰輪細中陰片喰) on the front and back of both shoulders and the back of the neck. The kimono is open at the front, and sleeves have short trailing panels with openings for the wrists at top outer corner. The garment is lined with red fabric, and is padded around the hem known as fuki (袘).
Black kimono made of Yūzen (友禅) double-layered silk. On top with cherry blossom branches at midpoint, and below the waist a wrap-around image of women in kimonos on a background of mottled green. There are three family crests or kamon (家紋) of creeping woodsorrel known as katabami (片喰) in a light tan colour decorate the back at neck and along arms. The kimono is long, open at the front, with long double lapels. Sleeves have short trailing panels below the wrists. The kimono is lined with light cream fabric around the shoulders and torso, red fabric inside the sleeves, and a second layer of the printed fabric on bottom.
Furisode (振袖) with hanabishi (花菱, diamond shaped flowers) and paulownia designs. Made of patterned silk in red, on a gold and pink background. Large circles containing small kanoko shibori (鹿の子絞り) patterns, flowers and foliage are scattered across the surface, with gold leaves in various sizes and small silvery blue flowers stamped on top. Kimono is open at the front, with long draping sleeve panels open toward the body. Small openings for the wrists are at outside top of sleeves. Kimono is lined with a cream coloured fabric.
Kanoko shibori (鹿の子絞り) kimono. Small squares patterns are dyed across the surface, each containing a red dot, with large circle motifs, some embellished with gold metal fibre embroidery. Jagged and flowing lines emanate from the circles. On the shoulders at back are three small gold family crests or kamon (家紋) in the shape of Citrus tachibana flowers in a circle known as maru ni tashibana (丸に橘). Kimono is open at the front, with long draping sleeve panels open toward the body to show a bright red lining, and small openings for the wrists at outside top. Interior of body is lined with red silk.
Furisode (振袖) made of dark brown silk, with a pattern of a vast assortment of flowers in many colours, interspersed with geometric patterns in purple and pink. The design covers the kimono below the waist as well as the shoulders and sleeves. Silk and metallic thread embroidery are incorporated into some of the flowers to add texture and shine. There are 5 crests or kamon (家紋) of Citrus tachibana in a circle known as maru ni tachibana (丸に橘); 2 crests on the chest on front of garment and 3 at back. Kimono is open at the front, with long draping sleeve panels open toward the body to show a bright red lining, and small openings for the wrists at outside top. Interior of body is lined with bright red silk. Bottom hem is slightly padded.
Kuro tomesode (黒留袖) style kimono with snow on bamboo design. Made of black silk, with a pattern of bamboo leaves in light green, yellow, blue and orange, topped by snow. Some snowy areas are emphasized with thick silk and metal fibre embroidery to add texture and shine. There are 5 crests or kamon (家紋) of three leaf arrowhead within a diamond shape known as Omodaka hishi (沢瀉菱); 2 crests on the chest on front of garment and 3 at back. Kimono is open at the front, with short panels draping from the sleeves. Panels are open toward the body to show a bright red lining, with a small opening for the wrists at outside top. Interior of body is lined with off-white silk. Bottom hem is slightly padded.
