Cantonese Opera HatN1.800

The folded hat is dark purple and rectangular with a rounded top piece, a back flap and embroidered motifs. The hat has a dark purple centre panel which folds inwards on both sides. Embroidered on the centre panel is a red and orange lotus and a multicoloured butterfly. Inside of both side folds are orange, green and red peonies surrounded by gold swirls. The rounded top piece has a large purple, green and yellow bat. Hanging down from the top piece on either side of the centre panel is a red streamer. On the back, the flap mimics the rounded top piece and extends down past the bottom of the folded centre panel, flaring out at the bottom. The large bat motif is repeated on the top piece of the back flap. In the centre of the flap is a large red flower. Surrounding the flower is a circle of gold scroll designs, purple peonies with green leaves and orange and red flowers with green leaves. On the inside of the hat is ecru lining, stiffened with cardboard. Two ecru ties are attached.

Hat made of light orange cotton fabric with a small circle of fabric at the top. The fabric has been quilted with small stitches across the top of the crown to the shoulder where it has been embroidered with a geometric pattern in greenish-brown thread around the sides. The sides of the hat flare outwards slightly.

The folded opera hat is light brown and rectangular with a rounded top piece curling down on either side. The hat has a light brown centre panel which folds inwards on both sides. Embroidered on the centre panel are pink and orange peonies with green leaves and gold swirls and a pink and orange bat. On the inside of both side folds is a red peony with green leaves and gold swirls. The rounded top piece has pink and orange peonies with green leaves and gold swirls. One curled end has a small orange flower and an attached green tassel. The other curled end has a small red flower and an attached pink tassel. The designs on the back of the hat mimic those on the front. There are pink orange and red peonies, green leaves, gold swirls. However, the small flowers on the curled ends are blue. On the inside of the hat is ecru lining, stiffened with cardboard. Two ecru ties are attached.

Apron1635/3

A black apron made of shiny fabric with multi-coloured floral embroidery, wide lace along the bottom, and long waist ties. The two sections of the apron are joined together down the centre by elaborate lace-like cream-coloured thread work. At either side, there is an embroidered design consisting of red, orange, green, and white flowers, grapes, and apples on spiral vines with leaves. The embroidered design begins partway down the middle and makes a right angle to go along the bottom of each side with a bouquet in each inner corner. Bottom lace design is consisting of part orange-red, and part green flowers surrounded by a spiral cream-coloured design that has orange-red thread running along through it. The lace border is sewn along the bottom hem which has been finished with blanket stitch. The waist ties have a main design consisting of red, white, and dark purple flowers bordered by a green, white, and dark purple geometric pattern on a black background.
