Ceremonial Panel1559/2

Rectangular embroidered and appliquéd textile panel, decorated with mirrors and edged with closely-spaced cowrie shells on three sides; the top edge is has a fibre loop attachment at the left corner. The design in the centre of the panel consists of two square motifs, embellished with rows of mirrors on a red and dark yellow background. A border design of embroidered and appliquéd bands and mirrors surrounds the central motifs. There are three 'tassels' made of clusters of bell-shaped pompoms of fine cotton thread and suspended from twisted fibre cords, evenly spaced on the 'bottom' edge; the tassels are trimmed with cowrie shells and metal beads.

Metal earrings (parts a-b) with a cast foliage pattern in a cutout diamond shape encircling two inset, diamond shaped grey-green and red glass beads. Dangling from the base are seven rectangular shaped metal pieces that each come to a triangular point. At each top is a cutout circle where a thin wire hook and clasp pass through. A diamond shaped, inset, red bead sitting on a piece of metal with circular cutouts is soldered to the hook.

Rosary BeadsH1.67

Rosary with the alternation of beads, nine red and four brass. The last, bottom, section of beads has four brass on either side of a larger, conical shaped, brass bead with crosshatching followed by three red beads, three brass beads, two coins – 1909 Republic of Ecuador, 1872 USA dime – three brass beads then a brass cross-like ornament which ends with a large silver crucifix decorated with circular, liner and floral details (on front and back) along with an attached figure.

Metal pin consisting of a solid, semi-circular top section with two cutout bird-like figures with incised wings and legs. In between the facing birds is an embossed human face. From the bottom of the metal piece are three, thick, linked chains that attach to an oval shape piece of metal with liner engravings and circular designs encircling another embossed face. On the bottom edge of the oval are four circles where four metal rings dangle cast human-like figures with a head, arms and triangular bodies. The back of the top section has a large metal pin.

Metal spoon with an heraldic cast handle and a coin bowl with a ridged brim; raised crest-like design on the inner bowl with the words: “IN HOC SIGNO VINCES”. Outer bowl has the words: “PETRUS II..D.G.CONST.IMP.ET PERP.BRAS.DEF. 1861” around the edge; circular flower motive wrapped around the central number, 1000. Plated back.

Cantonese Opera RobeN1.629

Blue robe with a round neck, tapered sleeves with hoof cuffs and a side opening with brass frog closures. There are slits in the centre front and back. The collar border has a gold peony motif on a red ground, edged with gold braid and pink trim. The cuffs have gold braid outside and black cotton lining inside. The robe lining is natural-coloured linen.

Spoon shaped stick pin with deep embossing and cut detail of a scallop pattern edge, a ring of floral design, a ring of repousséd ovals with a central green piece of glass clasped by four metal triangular pieces. Top, central, large scallop has a white bead on one side and orange on the other. A long, pointed, pin is riveted to the top and bottom of the disc; a short metal piece, with a rounded top, stretches out from the scallop.
