Coiled burden basket; simple interlocking coil work (bifurcated stitches) with vertical bands of imbrication. Plain overcast rim; parallel coiled work base. Several vertical bands of alternating black and red split diamond figures against white background. Bands on sides have red, black split diamonds. "Arrowhead" pattern. Buckskin loops. Colour: tan.

Burden BasketA9011

Rectangular flared coiled basket (bifurcated stitches). Parallel slat base and wall construction. Upper basket is fully imbricated in grass, with two parallel stepped zig-zag designs in dark cherry bark. Dark cherry bark stitches at intervals around rim. Lower portion of basket has three short bands on all sides except one that has two, in grass and dark cherry bark, in "cluster of flies" checkerboard pattern. Rawhide loops on one side. String handles on other sides.

Cylindrical basket (a) with rounded lid (b); simple interlocking coiled weaving (with bifurcated stitches); parallel slat bottom reinforced by stitches along edges; watch-spring lid construction with small hole in centre; complete beading; flange along basket rim. Basket is completely beaded; sides: has each coil done in triple staggered rows of alternating bulrush, red, and black cherry bark. Lid: has each coil is beaded with alternating strips of white, black, and red, creating concentric circles. String handle attached with rawhide thongs. Colour: natural.
