Baby Carrier2740/1

Basketry cradle with skin carrying straps attached to the sides. Woven designs in light and dark vary, one side and top end have zigzags along the top and rectangles below, the other side and bottom end have vertical lines. Two cross straps near each end are connected to each other by a thicker strap handle, and a piece of thin green rope is tied through opening at the bottom end.

Wooden jaguar puppet on strings. Lower legs are attached to upper legs with metal staples, the legs and tail are nailed to the body, the moveable head with leather ears tied on with a thin white rope, all of which are attached with long strings to a small wood bar. White paws, black body stripes, open red mouth with large white teeth, and beady black and white eyes are painted.

Wooden horse puppet on strings. Lower legs are attached to upper legs with metal staples, the legs, a saddle, and long grass tail are nailed to the body, the moveable head with leather ears tied on with a thin white rope, all of which are attached with long strings to a small wood bar. The horse is white with the hooves, eyes, and bridle in black and body decoration of green, blue and yellow circles and red dots.

Doors at front open on leather hinges to the sides from the centre to display a scene in three dimensions of a mermaid sitting on the rocks playing a guitar for three figures, goat, and a white dove hovering above her head.

Retablo Altar2738/200

Brightly painted, large, portable "retablo" box altar. Two doors on leather hinges and painted on both sides in red, yellow,and black, open with red and white striped ribbons, from the centre outwards, to show two levels of small painted plaster figures and animals arranged into two scenes. On the top is a Nativity scene with the Three Kings and numerous shepherds while, on the bottom, is a scene of celebration with male and female musicians, acrobats, dancers, animals and food on a table. The exterior of the box is painted with red square and dot filled diamond shapes against a white background.

Toy dog with moving mouth and tail. Square carved dog with black leather ears and tail, black painted spots, eyes, nose, white teeth and red tongue stands on a mount beneath which are a series of wheels. When a handle on one side is turned, the wheels rotate, causing the mouth to move up and down and the tail to swivel.

Brightly painted portable "retablo" box altar. Two doors open outwards from the centre on leather hinges to show a Nativity scene with Jesus as a toddler. Framed behind gilded pillars are small painted plaster figures and animals which are staggered in rows rising in height towards the larger figures of Joseph and Mary. The exterior of the box and the interior of the doors are painted with floral motifs in red, green, blue, purple, yellow, and black on a white background.

Small painted plaster animals are staggered in rows rising in height towards the pink and yellow back wall where a peasant kneels before the baby in the cradle and a gilded Joseph and Mary. Retablo altar to the Virgin de la Candelaria Copacabana. Altar consists of a rectangular wooden box (a) painted white and red, the front of which has an arched top facade with painted crown and two door panels, that open outwards, painted with a scene of a church (b) and scene of a three crosses (c). Small painted female figure holding a baby stands inside the painted interior, on a blue pedestal, surrounded by a variety of paper flowers, sparkling silver urns, a plastic orb, and cards of religious characters.
