Barrel-shaped brown drum (a) with wide woven strap has stretched white goat skin held in place over each end with wood hoops. White rope laced between the two skins in a zigzag has attached metal rings from which hang bundled, twisted or braided strands of yellow, blue, red, black, green and pink fibre with tassels and pompoms at the ends. Two drumsticks, one a polished piece of wood with curved handle and padded red leather top (b), the other a simple painted stick with black tape near one end (c), are stuck between the lacing.
A bundle of tassels, or fringe from a garment that has been cut off and tied together. The tassels are made from lengths of skin wrapped in porcupine quill and ending with copper cones and very coarse hair. The catalogue card states this is a bunch of Indian bells which probably resulted from the fact the tassels are partly made from small copper cones which jingle when shaken (G.Crowther).; Good.The cones are made of iron not copper
A) Skin bag with a central strip of red and white quill decoration. The bag has a long cord attached made from plaited gut, with a blue, white and red woven end decoration. B) Similar bag to A) inside which it is kept. It has a central fringe of red cotton but no quill work.; Good. Additional description: A) Flattened, creased and slightly warped. Very fragile and brittle. A number of small holes over surface and a small circular repair on one side. Red edging at mouth of bag. Toggle at end of cord. B) Flattened, creased and slightly warped. Quiver of ?seal skin sewn with sinew. The base of the quiver has been added from a different piece of skin. There is a small thong of leather near the top of the quiver. There are several patches of bare skin.; Good.
A: Wooden ceremonial drum or ' gujaaw' , painted by the well known Haida artist Reg Davidson. Goatskin stretched over yellow cedar hoop. Caribou horn handle at back of drum. Round design on front depicts front view of eagle face, in red, black and white acrylic paint. The drum is used to accompany traditional singing at many celebratory occasions. B: Beater, made from cedar wooden, with end bound in red cloth. The drums of this type are used to accompany traditional singing at many celebratoryoccasions such as feasts, potlatches, and pole raisings. The unpainted drum was not made by the artist but purchased ready for painting the design. The drum maker was from Vancouver Island; Good; Complete
Belt made of a band of beads strung together and sewn onto a rawhide backing. A connected repeating pattern in alternating red and blue on a white background is bordered with green. One end of the skin wraps around the centre of a small silver metal buckle, the other end narrows slightly and is rounded at tip.
Heavily beaded pouch-type bag has long, wide shoulder strap. Blue, white, dark and olive green, gold, pink, yellow, black, and orange glass beads are sewn in floral designs onto red wool, which is stitched to a backing of tan coloured skin with a khaki cotton edging. Beaded top flap of small pouch lifts up to reveal red wool pocket with green and orange edging and blue cotton lining.
Headdress consisting of flat, horn-shaped curved wood head piece with long strands of dried grass hanging down in two thick bunches from grass pompoms. The plank wood headpiece, with leather and cloth head straps attached, is painted white with red dots on both sides and, on the front, has two leaping sharks facing each other and the dates 2000 and 2005.
