Drum2704/42

Tall, narrow drum with a skin top. The circular skin top is stretched down and tied with bark to a double woven band around the middle of the drum. Into the woven band are pushed nine carved stakes. The stakes are pointed and vary in length and shade. The drum is unpainted wood, broad at the top and tapers to the base. The interior is hollow.

Drum with three long legs and a skin top. The drum is painted with a reddish pigment. The circular skin top is stretched down and tied with bark to a double woven band around the middle of the drum. Into the woven band are pushed nine carved stakes. The stakes are short, pointed and unpainted. The drum is round and one piece with three thick, irregularly carved legs.

Circular beaded necklace with long beaded strips. The necklace has 2 rings of blue beads, 2 of white, 1 of red and 1 of green strung onto metal wire. The wire rings are sewn onto a leather backing with a metal hook and eye fastener at the top. At the bottom of the necklace is a white plastic button, an orange beaded rectangle and 7 long beaded strings (blue, orange, 2 green, 2 white and 1 red).

Black mask with horns. The mask has a round forehead with gold bar, red flap ears, wide cheeks and white eyes with open corners. Under the eyes are yellow half circles with red and white dots. The lower jaw is movable but secured with leather ties, splitting through the large red lips. The interior is unpainted.

Cantonese Opera Boots2701/11 a-b

A pair of boots high enough to cover the wearer’s calf, with very thick white soles curved upwards at the front. The sides of the boots are decorated with frontal images of flowers in two shades of blue sequins, with tendrils extending from them filled in with silver sequins, as are the centres of the flowers. There are also flowers on the toes of the boots. There are long loops of fabric attached to the tops of the boots at the centre front. A red stamp with Chinese characters is inside (a) near top.
