Neck RingA8231

Thick, neck ring consisting of layers of shredded cedar bark wrapped around itself to create a circular shape. On top of the cedar wrap is finely twisted cedar bark rope laid parallel and woven together. An additional sash of the same material is bound onto the ring by a plated cedar bark collar. Sewn to this sash are small, rectangular strips of hide. There is a piece of eagle down intertwined in the weaving.

Carved, wooden raven headdress, or mask. Long beak and oval shaped, cutout nostrils. The beak is hinged with pieces of leather on either side, nailed to the jaw. The beak and nostrils are painted black with red edging. There is a red stylized split U-form around the nostrils. The eyes are white, outlined in black on a white, ovoid shaped background; brow is black. Attached to the top of the head are short strips of cedar bark creating a fringe. Attached with twine to the top, back and bottom rim are small bunches of cedar. The inside of the mask is hollow with the exception of an attached twine cord that assistants the beak in opening and shutting. The mask is painted black, red and white with Northwest Coast stylized designs.

Carved, wooden, baby raven ? mask with a short beak and s-shaped cutout nostrils. The beak is hinged with pieces of leather on either side, nailed to the jaw. The beak and nostrils are painted black with red edging. The eyes are red, outlined in black on a green, ovoid shaped background; brow is black. There is a crescent shaped cut out of the bottom of the beak. Attached with staples to the top, back and bottom rim is a blue cloth hangs down to cover the body of the wearer. The inside of the mask is hollow with the exception of an attached twine cord that assistants the beak in opening and shutting. The mask is painted black, red and green with Northwest Coast stylized designs.

Wooden, carved bear mask with a long snout painted black and red circular cutout nostrils. The jaw is hinged with a piece of leather nailed, on either side, to the lower mouth. The face is black with white edging; black outlined eyes on a green, ovoid shaped background; brow is black. There are two holes on the top where the ears used to be. The inside of the mask is hollow with the exception of a twine cord that attaches to the mouth and a rubber lining. Baleen framework at back of mask to facilitate wearing. The mask is painted black, green, red and white with Northwest Coast stylized designs.

Hide jacket with bead work and fringe. The jacket has a short standing collar, long cuffed sleeves and centre opening with hook and eye closures. On the front is a deep ‘U’ shape beneath the collar with a beaded floral motif on black appliqué fabric. There are two pockets on the lower front. There are beaded patches on the front, pockets, shoulders and upper back. Patches include floral motifs, fish skeleton and rectangular shapes. There is fringe on the ‘U’ shape, sleeves and upper back. There are braids of brown hair attached to the back of each shoulder. The inside is unlined.

Doeskin dress (part a) with beadwork. The dress has round neck, short sleeves and flared skirt. The sleeves are cut on an angle with no lower seam. All edges have a thick cut fringe. There are pairs of long thin fringe sewn over the front and back body. There are beaded line and step triangle motifs on the upper front and back. The designs on each side are different. The inside is unlined.

Light blue vest with beadwork. The vest has a centre opening with thin leather ties. The beadwork covers the entire outer surface. The front has a flower shapes with star and ovoid centres connected by straight lines, in pink, yellow, blue and green on light blue ground. The back has thick red and burgundy beads strung in a crisscross pattern over black velvet ground. The inner lining is burgundy cotton with a light brown vine pattern.
