Made out of nuts in three parts covered with nine dangling strands of bone, possibly that of vertebrae, that have a conical bone at each end. The top is covered with strands of hide. There is a piece of hide underneath the bone strands, which are also decorated with a white, red, and white bead at the top and middle.
A tall jug with a rounded bottom which tapers upward and has a flared base. The lid has a cylindrical stem which flared outward and downward and has capped overtop. The top of the lid has white, light blue, and orange beads at the centre with circular rows of blue, white and dark blue, and red beads. The sides of the lid are decorated with cowrie shells and horizontal rows of red, and white and dark blue beads. The lid is held in place with a band of skin decorated with cowrie shells. The jug is decorated with vertical rows of cowrie shells on bands of skin. The whole object is woven.
Square-shaped drum with white skin that has been stretched over a light brown coloured frame and stapled at the sides. On the reverse, the drum frame has a cross-piece section in the centre that is secured with two nails and has a secondary wood frame inset into the outer drum frame.
Long and narrow bottle covered in red-brown leather (part a). Body of bottle has four distinct ridges that are decorated with light brown, dark brown, and red coloured woven leaf bands. Neck of bottle is decorated with brown fringe. Large leather label on body with inscription in bold letters says: "LEATHER ENCASED BOTTLE GAMBIA-AFRICA." Part b is the cork stopper to the bottle, has a decorative band of woven leaf fibres around the top and is attached to a long strip of leather.
Part a is a carved wood container that is rounded near the bottom and narrows at the top. Small handles protrude from each side. Leather straps are attached with rope and string to the handles. Part b is a cap-shaped lid with a flared knob and a small ridge underneath.
Partially decorated shadow puppet. Arms are articulated at shoulders and elbows with bone joints. Decorative cutouts are at hair, waist, skirt, hands, and feet. Black paint has been applied to the face; white paint has been applied to areas of the regalia; rest of surface has been painted yellow. Both sides of the puppet are painted yellow with white, only one side has black paint.
Piece of water buffalo skin used for making shadow puppets. Skin with hair on one side; hair is brown at one corner and beige for rest of surface. Two holes are in the skin on one side; one near centre and one near the end. End with the hole has another split in it from edge about 5 cm.
Shadow puppet (wayang kulit) representing the character Durna. Two-dimensional figure of a man with one arm articulated at the shoulder and elbow; other arm is at his side. Man is wearing regalia shirt, skirt, pants, shoes, headdress, sword, and jewelry. The shirt is green with gold floral decorations; the skirt is in blues, greens, pink, white, and purples; pants are red with gold, diamond-shaped checkered designs; headdress is in same colours as skirt and goes from forehead down to shoulders; shawl goes over shoulder and down back to below waist; sword has animal head-shaped hilt and is in a black and gold scabbard; jewelry is one band at each ankle and wrist, one ring on each hand, a beaded necklace being held in stationary hand, and earrings; shoes are black with gold floral decoration and they resemble clogs. Articulated arm is controlled by a long horn rod that is attached to the hand; a second horn rod has been split down centre for most of its length and has the height of the set into it.
Tear-drop-shaped skin container with a narrow opening and a protruding looped handled. Container has three flaps of skin attached under the handle. Skin flaps are decorated with two rows of shells and have skin and shell tassels on the end of each flap. Part b is the lid to the container. It is cone-shaped, tapers near the centre and flares out at the top. It is decorated with rows of blue and white, and red beads around the perimeter radiating from the top of the lid. The outer edges of the flared top of the lid have two rows of blue and white beads on either side of a double row of red beads. At the base of the lid is a single row of alternating black and white beads.
Part a is a long gourd with one end tapered and the other end rounded. Long skin strap attaches to the rounded end of the gourd, loops around the base of the gourd, and extends half way up to the centre of the gourd. Skin strap has three rows of beads: a row of blue beads on one side, a row of white beads(?) in the centre, and a row of red beads on the other side. Further down on the skin strap are two horizontal rows of red, white, and blue, and green, red, white, blue, and red beads. Separating the two lines is a vertical row of beads with a central beaded design. Beaded design has a brown button in the centre. Rest of skin strap is not attached to the gourd, but extends the length of the gourd. Part b is a small cone-shaped cap to the gourd. It is decorated with a band of green, red, and white beaded sections.
