Basket1719/16

Oblong basket with tall, straight sides and open work rim formed by wavy, top coil. Two flexible handles go across shorter dimension and are formed from skin thong coiled with cedar root. Each side has a central diamond design of dark brown and light brown.

Dagger1768/37

Dagger with long, tapered, metal blade attached to a bone(?) handle. Body of handle wound with skin strips. Top of handle carved like into a bear head with abalone insets. Butt of handle appears to be whale bone.

Dagger1768/34

Metal dagger with raised surface in middle of blade. Handle is wrapped with a strip of leather, which was then bound with copper wire. Top of handle is decorated with two metal protrusions angled away from each other and curling at the ends.

Cushion Cover1730/16

Square, skin cushion cover. Fringe of different lengths along all four sides. Along edges between fringe and painting is a strip of skin laced through cover to attach cotton backing to front. Painted, incised design on front of a thunderbird, with outstretched wings, atop a Sisiutl. Middle of Sisiutl is painted with the face of a human figure.

Overall brown in colour. Barb attached with metal pegs to bone carved in shape of human head. Skin looped through head, bound with sinew in middle and ending in a loop, which is also bound by sinew.

Basket1719/42 a-b

Twined, square basket with rim larger than base. Part b is a lid in the shape of a square pyramid with a flat tip and a lip that fits inside the bottom part. Two handles cross the basket; handles are of skin with root coiled around them; exterior is decorated with false embroidery; band of alternating brown and dark brown trees at rim; one brown and one dark brown moose ? on opposite sides; one brown and one dark brown butterfly(?) on other opposing sides.

Bulbous, rounded basket with a flat back and fitted lid that is attached via a leather strip in a hinge-like manner; lid has a mail slot-like opening in its centre. Repeated geometric designs in black, red and white-yellow cover the top and front sides. A looped strap of leather and string is attached to the back.
