Somewhat two-dimensional wooden puppet of a figure with articulated shoulder and elbow joints. Sticks attached to both hands, one has a fabric tassel on the end. A short handle protrudes from the bottom of the figure.

Long pole handle attached to eliptical-shaped net, tied in two places with twine and thong. Net suspended in middle by six bone rings and nine twine bindings at top. Net attached to pole by string and thong to end of pole. Double reinforced at end of net.

Shadow Puppet1568/4

Shadow puppet (wayang kulit) representing the character Petruk. Two dimensional, tall, thin man with articulated shoulders and elbows; arms have rods of horn from hands; another long, horn rod has central split and goes up height of puppet on both sides. Man is of a translucent skin with opaque painted decorations of shoes, bracelets, skirt, necklace, earrings, and facial features. Decorations are painted on both sides. Skirt is of a black and gold triangle design with red outlines; waist has a row of red and green alternating triangles above a row of green and gold triangles; fringe is in orange, blue, and white. Shoes are black with gold decoration. Head has braid of dark hair through a hole at the back of the painted hair area; strands of red string tie end of braid.

Part a: Overdress loom, consists of two large branch beams, warp and partly woven overdress, heddles and rod and large branch shed rod. Weaving is about two thirds black warp face and one third (on one side) design panel of horses and geometric in purple, white, orange, red, green and yellow. Part b: shed roll, part c: comb made of dark wood, flat and slightly tapered, jagged top and bottom. Part d: long slender stick for holding picked up threads, part e: pick beater made of yellow horn. Part f: flattened pointed stick for picking up threads made of dark wood and slightly curved and tapered to a point. Part g: Dark brown wood, one piece with knob handle and round shaft which is shaped to a point. Part h: dark brown wood with tapered ends, roughly rounded and smoothed. Part i: dark brown leather tie, two lengths joined through slits. Part j: leather tie but only one length and end has three slits. Part k: Grey, brown and red braid tie. Part l: Long stick. Part m: long and thick rounded bar. Part n: Grey and light brown coloured woven band with red spots. Part o: Dark and light brown tie.

Pair of child’s moccasins with central eagle design and geometric patterns beaded over the toe. Done in light blue, dark blue, red and yellow. Moccasins are white with an extended, overturned brown rim, and a long, narrow tongue with a lace on either side of it.

Mat1595/1

Mat woven with commercial sheep's wool dyed with natural dyes. The warp is fine wool plied. Tied loops at one end, tied fringe at the other. The weft is thick handspun wool, naturally dyed and with some grease left in. Twining produces geometric patterns in zigzag lines. Blue 'Salish Weaving' tag sewn to back.
