The Harpist3010/21 a-d

Male figure playing a harp. Male figure (part a) wearing knee-length black robes with a white tie at the waist and a necklace made of white and red seeds. Both arms and legs are moveable. The large harp (part b) has two feet and is strung with nylon. The figure has large hands with long fingers, and an open mouth in which a dark brown wooden pipe (part c) fits. The figure stands on a wooden platform (part d), which has been painted white on top, and has four leather loops for footholds.

Miniature Moccasins3259/54 a-b

Miniature beaded moccasins. Made of hide with wide beaded flaps. The beading is mirrored on the two shoes. Along one flap, there is a light blue with repeating white and red diamond designs. On the opposite flaps there is a dark blue with repeating yellow rectangle designs. Dark blue strip of beading down the front of the shoes with triangles of red and yellow, and two rows of beads down the back of blue, repeating with white, green and yellow.

Costume Stick3272/4

Kurent stick, or club. Made of a thick branch of wood, slightly curved along its length, blunt at each end. A leather thong passes through a hole at grip end, and a hedgehog pelt with quills and a small amount of fur is attached to head. A meal hook is screwed into head at tip.

Basket3259/44

Burden basket with tumpline. Small, square base; basket walls flare toward rim, with a slightly curved profile. Black and red cherry bark imbrication is used to create linear designs with deep ‘V’ shapes on all sides. Hide thong loops, tied through near the rim, hold a tumpline made of red and grey wool and braided cedar bark.

Fishing net made of knotted hide cord, which is bundled with a length of cord wrapped around the centre. Some cord fits through a small rectangular toggle made of antler.

Jacket3262/1

Hide beaded jacket. Jacket is long sleeved with a narrow collar, zipper front closure, and falls to waist. Thick leather fringe hangs from arms, waist, shoulders, chest and back. Front hip pockets, wrists, and front and back of shoulders are decorated with beaded flowers in orange and blue with green leaves and white vines. Interior of jacket is lined with dark blue synthetic fibre, and pockets are lined with orange.

Moccasins3262/3 a-b

Pair of beaded, over-ankle moccasins. Each has a high top, reaching mid-calf, with a leather thong tipped with fur pompoms threaded through the mouth for tightening. A wide panel of dark brown fur circles the boot just above the ankle. Calf and top of toe are decorated with glass and plastic beads in blue and red flower patterns, with white vines and green leaves. Toe is edged in a line of pink and black beads. Ankle can be tightened with a strip of hide. Interior leg of boots is lined with dark purple fabric.
