Dagger3616/2 a-b

Metal dagger (part a) with long beaded sheath (part b). Large knife with double-edged blade riveted between a two-piece wood handle. The handle is wrapped with a wire of copper alloy metal in three places - around the guard, above the guard, and directly in front of the butt. The wire is inserted into holes in the wood and held together with ornate twists. The sheath is composed of four pieces of leather - two large triangular pieces attached on the sides to form the pocket, and two smaller triangular pieces, which are attached below creating an overall hourglass shape. One side is heavily beaded with blue, pink and black diamond designs on a white background. There is one black 'x' just above the tapered midsection.

Bag3616/1

Quilled and beaded deerskin tobacco bag. The top is a long pouch of soft deerskin with clear and green beads stitched along the scalloped opening. Below the pouch is a two-sided rectangular panel of beadwork on a red fabric backing. On one side, the beadwork design has two side-by-side pink diamonds with dark blue crosses within, outlined in red, green and dark blue on a white background outlined with a single line of teal flanked by two lines of white beading. On the other side, the beadwork design is of a single pink diamond outlined in teal, red, mustard brown and dark blue on a white background outlined with a single line of teal flanked by two lines of white beading. The diamond has two angled extensions on each side in dark blue, mustard brown, red and teal. Below the beadwork panel is a section of quillwork, with strips of deerskin wrapped in quills dyed orange, red, and white. Below this extends long fringe of deerskin.

Small beaded 'jingle' bag with beadwork. On the front, the beadwork has geometric designs in dark yellow, red, dark blue, and pink, on a light blue background. The back has two separate rectangular sections of beading on a pink background stitched together with some blue beaded fill on the right side. The designs are of concentric diamonds in dark yellow, dark blue, green, white, red and blue attached by lines on a pink background. Round metal beads are tied to a length of skin that is threaded through a slot in the flap and attached to the inside of the bag. The end of each tie has a single red seed bead above the knot. The flap and bottom edge are lined with 'tinkle' bells of conical pounded metal. Attached to the top of the bag are two lengths of skin knotted together with more round metal beads.

Miniature Drum3557/8

Hand drum sealed inside a plastic bag; bag is secured shut with a paper manufacturer's label stapled over the opening. Drum is hour-glass shaped; bottom is open and top is covered with lizard skin, secured with plant fibre tie and resin(?). Rectangular handle protrudes from centre of drum; wide arch extends from other side, for resting drum against leg. Drum is undecorated. Light blue card inserted into bag, behind drum, with image of person playing drum and one of the drum itself; paragraph of text describes maker, materials, and construction techniques.

Beaded hide apron with straight top edge and five scalloped panels hanging along the bottom edge. Top half consists of a plain hide band, trimmed with white beading, above a larger rectangular panel; long hide ties extend from either side of band. Bottom half decorated with white beads with geometric, linear, and V-shaped motifs throughout; done in dark blue, dark green, dark yellow, red, black, and light purple beading. All scallop edges are trimmed with dark green beads. Back of apron is undecorated.

Doll3612/10 a-e

Standing female doll (part a) wearing a red and white floral patterned dress. The dress is secured with a single snap fastener at the back of the neck. She wears long white pants under the dress with ornate floral ribbon around the hems. She wears a thin white veil (part b) with a head covering (part c) overtop which covers most of her torso at the front and extends to her ankles at the back. The head covering is blue with blue decorative embroidery on the front panel. Her black embroidery floss hair is braided and secured with an orange hair tie with a single pin holding it in place. She wears leather sandals (parts d-e) with silver metallic straps. Her eyes, eyebrows, mouth and nails are painted on and her nose and ears are sewn.

Babiche bag with pink and blue yarn tassel decorations. Main body of bag done in an open weave; babiche is white with a thin brown stripe towards top edge. Bag opening consists of a wide band of caribou skin with two ties along top edge, for securing bag closed. Long hide strap stitched to outer corners of opening. Yarn decorations done in rows of four, three, and three on front; four tassels along bottom edge and additional ones on each side. Back of bag is undecorated.

Face Cover3553/1 a-b

Rectangular fabric face covering, with coins and beadwork across surface (part a). Covering has a plain red centre and is bordered by alternating white cotton braids and silver beads; triangular charms stitched along top edge of red centre. Two eye holes cut out above rectangle; fabric ridge sewn down middle of covering, imitating a nose. Ridge has coins attached along the top edge, and plastic beads and buttons along the sides. Two thin, pink embroidered bands attached to sides of covering, with strands of metal beads hanging from the bottom edges; red and green tassels throughout beads. Embroidered bands have columns of orange, green, and yellow diamonds along them. Additional coin and bead decorations along bottom edge of face covering. Back is lined with floral fabric and has a leather tie on the left side (lower half- part b); two fabric loops in each corner along top edge.

Baby Carrier3591/1

Baby carrier made of hide stretched over wood frame; long sides are rounded, short ends are straight. Wood frame consists of thick carved pieces and split branches; carved pieces make up top and bottom sections of frame, branches form sides. Carved wood pieces are secured with nails; branches bound with floral-patterned fabric. Hide is stitched around top rim of cradle and along short edges. Additional floral-patterned fabric is wrapped around the carved wood sections of the frame. Raised semi-circle extends from top edge, at head of cradle.

Bread Container3577/14 a-b

Bread container (part a) composed of a round basket constructed of woven grasses and thick sturdy leather exterior with a long leather carrying strap. The basket bottom is plain, with plain, bright pink, dark purple and green included in the sides. A detachable lid (part b) is also composed of a round basket with thick sturdy leather exterior. The basketry is brightly coloured in bright pink, dark purple and green, with a subtle plain diamond pattern throughout and plain rim, The lid is attached by a long thin leather strap, which is fed through four loops of leather that are attached to the basket.
