Dance Apron3558/2

Black dance apron with leather fringe extending from the bottom edge. Apron has two long black ties on either side; two copper designs on front centre, done in red felt. Coppers have a bear design on the top half and "T"-like design on the bottom. White buttons are stitched across the red felt. Leather fringe alternates between plain and beaded pieces; additional antler decoration on fringe with beads. Beads consist of black, red and white circular beads and alternating black and white tube beads. Back of apron is undecorated.

Moccasins3558/16 a-b

Pair of ankle-high hide moccasins with elastic band behind the tongue; interior of opening is lined with floral cloth. Top of toe and long flap wrapping around back of heel are covered with cloth panels with beaded decorations. Designs consist of pink and blue flowers with green leaves on a white background; dark purple highlights and yellow centres throughout pink flowers. Cloth panels are bordered with dark purple beads; additional alternating white and pink bead border on long flap. Moccasin openings are lined with dark brown-grey fur.

Moccasin openings are lined with white fur.

Wig3566/1 a-g

Short wig made up of brown curly human hair (part a); an interior net of red yarn and plain cord holds the shape of the wig. Back edge of wig is decorated with a band of white feathers; front left and right corners of wig are decorated with small yellow flowers. Wig has six attachments, consisting of: a red parrot on a stick, that attaches to the top (part b); brown-black and white feathered wings, that attach at the front (part c); a spray of multi-coloured parrot feathers, that attach to the front of the wings (part d); two small white and yellow feathers, that stick out on either side of the wig (parts e-f); and a snake skin headband (part g). Large feather decorations (parts c-d) are missing attachments; small feathers are inserted into wig and held in place with their shafts. Headband has two ties on either side.

Mask3573/28

Demon mask. Carved and painted mask. Humanoid, demon-like face with bulging eyes, a protruding upturned nose and four tusk-like teeth. Light blue and gold scalloped headdress on top of mask. Central projection has three triangular protrusions with a teardrop-shaped projection in the centre. Ears painted a shiny copper colour. Mouth is open wide and has large white teeth along the top and bottom edges. Lips painted dark red, gums are pink. Face is painted brown and has black textured lines around the cheeks, and chin. Eyes are painted off-white, and rimmed in red. Mask has holes cutout under eyes and in mouth. Thin black knotted string attached. Skin with straight hair attached on brow and along top of head, and thick, curly hair extending along jaw.

Hat3531/4 a-b

Woven palm leaf hat, fedora-style (part a), with a decorative belt (part b). Hat has a moderately wide brim and crown with a pinched front and back. There are three holes on each side, between the pinched sections, lined with metal. A green plastic ribbon wraps around the base. It has an alternating square motif, consisting of solid green squares and checkered ones with floral motifs in the centre. Separate red leather belt rests around hat base, covering the ribbon. Belt is decorated with columns of holes, lined with metal, along its length; entire belt wrapped in a dark blue wool.

Mat3528/40

Sealskin mat with ookpik design. Round fur mat is divided into 8 pie-shaped sections in alternating dark brown and light brown fur. Each triangle has an ookpik shape sewn into it in the opposite colour fur (4 light brown sewn into dark brown, 4 dark brown birds in light brown fur). Each ookpik has felt eyes of black and yellow circles, a beige felt triangular nose, and 3-toed felt feet attached. There is a small sinew loop at the top for hanging.

Carving3528/6

Two pronged antler carving attached to a stone base. In the lowest section of the antler a human-like face is carved. Just above where the antler splits in two branches, is a carved water spirit(?) type creature with caribou fur for hair and flippers as hands and feet; at the end of that prong another smaller creature with flippers is carved. The other branch sticks out to the side and has a twist carved into most of its length; at the end is a bird-human type creature, carved as if it is biting the branch with a large beak; its two legs and an arm are extended out. The stone base is irregular, but almost square. Unsigned.

Basket3509/5 a-b

Rigid cylindrical basket (part a) with a separate lid (part b). Body of basket made of bark, covered in woven strips of rattan(?). It has a wide circular opening and square base, with a short foot. Basket is shaped with four exterior coils of rattan(?) around the top third, and two rods along each side. Rods and coils are dyed dark red, and tied to the basket with plant fibre. Three decorative bands woven around basket; two towards opening, one along bottom edge. Top two bands have identical patterns consisting of a grid with a zigzag overtop, zigzag is made of connected diamonds; bottom band filled with horizontal chevrons. All designs are done in dark brown. Entire back of basket is covered with vertical strips of rattan(?). Long piece of bark cloth looped through strips, forming three straps. Label attached to interior of basket. Lid is made of animal skin and has a long lip, that fits over the top of the basket. It has an internal circular frame, made of bark. Skin is stretched over the frame and secured with a rattan(?) coil, dyed dark red, and plant fibre ties.

Ornament3512/37

Tanned leather ornament resembling a rounded bottom purse. Top edge is folded over, creating a flap, with long strands of fringe hanging onto front of ornament. All strands hang from centre; straight pieces stitched to front of flap, one looped piece of fringe stitched to back of ornament. Protruding white beaded band borders all sides, with black triangle designs throughout. Ornament has a braided strap stitched to the left side of the ornament. It has a looped end that secures it to the right side of the ornament with a button.
