Small shadow puppet, Acem, a man from Persia. Made of semi-transparent animal skin and a watery paint or dye, soaked into the skin. The puppet body, thighs and lower legs are separate pieces, tied together with a thin plastic cord through small holes. The figure is a male, wearing red pants, with a red and dark green tunic and hat, and tall black boots. His one hand is on his stomach; his other hand is on his chest. He has a full black beard and mustache. The main hole for the stick (to manipulate the puppet) is in his upper arm. The maker's name is written along the back of the neck.

Helmet Mask3321/7

Mask carved from a single piece of wood. Bulging forehead, prominent nose, and sunken cheeks. Cowrie shells and seedpods outline the face, and are arranged in decorative patterns. The face is covered by pounded copper sheeting with repoussé designs. Continuous lines of black beads extend horizontally across the face, around the eyes, down the bridge of the nose, and around the mouth. A large black beaded trident form on the forehead. The cheekbones and nostrils are heavily beaded in small black and white beads. Goat skin, goat hair, and raffia cloth embellish the top of the head. A woven strip hangs from the chin. The base of the mask is outlined by two rows of cowrie shells, with strings of large reddish-brown seedpods and feathers hanging down.

The puppet arm, body, legs and hat are separate pieces, tied together with a thin plastic cord through small holes. The figure is a male, wearing blue short pants, with a red and orange tunic, hat and shoes. The hat is made as a removable piece, but is attached in place with a plastic tie. His one hand is under his chin; his other arm is articulated in two places so its position can be manipulated (hold for stick in lower arm). He has a black beard and mustache. The main hole for the stick (to manipulate the puppet) is in his upper chest area. The maker's name is written along the back of one leg.

Devil Costume Mask3289/82

Devil costume mask. Black fake fur is stuck to the face, which is also painted purple. The nose resembles a black devil-like creature with a tongue hanging out, with a similar reddish-brown creature extending from the chin. Attached to the mask are two pairs of natural horns. A small animal pelt, possibly deer, hangs from the back of the mask. A pair of serpents and a pair of pumas are carved and jut out of the sides of the mask. Horse hair(?) extends down from the chin. The interior is lined with brown cord fabric, and has bungee cord strung through eye-hooks.

Devil Costume3289/79

Long leather jacket made of strips of dark brown leather. The edges of the pieces of leather are scalloped, punched and stitched together with white thread. The jacket is open, and has a single tie at the neck.

Pink face mask (part a) with large grey beard, thick eyesbrows and a moustache. Inserted into the mouth is a bejeweled pipe (part b). The mask is composed of animal hide, which has been painted pink. The lower portion has been cut, then stitched together to give the mask its shape. The cheeks are a slightly darker shade of pink. Holes are cut for the eyes, nostrils and mouth. A single small black dot on the mask's right cheek. A length of thin black string is looped through the top centre of the mask.
