En-tee-teeq'w Spring Salmon by Steve Noyes (Colville/Puyallup), 1989. This is one of ten works of art commissioned by the Burke Museum for the state's centennial exhibition, A Time of Gathering: Native Heritage in Washington State. Steve Noyes explains: As we came together to fish, that's what I consider a time of gathering. My Dad's from Kettle Falls and my Grandpa, Pet Noyes, was probably the last of the Salmon Chiefs. He was there when the dams stopped the fish. At the First Salmon Ceremony, all the fish were divided. Everyone got a share. Spring Salmon was the first to come up the river. He was special - one of the Chiefs.
