River Monster2794/3

Carved figure representing the legendary river monster "Waisana". Upper half of fish-shaped carving narrows from centre out towards both ends. The figure is painted black and has hooked motifs and six circular hollows carved out along its length. Lower portion is unpainted and has a drilled hole in the centre that fits on peg of rectangular wooden stand.

Globular shaped rattle with carved facial designs on opposing sides. A hair-like fringe of cedar bark is bunched and tied on with twine strung through holes at sides and top and yellowish rope is coiled around the handle.
