Knife3577/17 a-b

Long dagger (part a) with leather sheath (part b). Dagger has a long curved blade and a wooden handle. The handle is wrapped with thin brass-coloured wire, with silver-coloured buttons inserted. The pommel ends with a small wooden bowl. The double-edged blade is shaped like an asymmetrical leaf. The sheath (part b) is made of wood wrapped in leather, which is stitched along a centre seam. The sheath has a belt with a circular metal buckle.

Knife3558/10

Ulu type knife. Metal blade is crescent-shaped with a beveled bottom edge. Blade held in place by bronze metal plates on both sides, that slot into the underside of the handle. Three copper nails have been hammered through the bronze plate into the blade to hold it in place, with the ends smoothed to blend with the bronze plate. The handle is a rectangular piece of horn, with a curved top edge. A hide cord is tied around centre of handle.

Blade is attached to a metal shank, with two rivets, that is inserted into bottom centre of wooden handle. Handle is rectangular in shape, with a rounded top edge.

Harpoon3508/2 a-b

Harpoon (part a) with a detachable head (part b). Harpoon has a cylindrical steel shaft inserted into a wider wooden handle. Ends of wood are capped with copper(?). Hide cord wrapped around bottom end in a loose spiral, before tightening into a thick band; hide acts as a handgrip. Second hide tie knotted around base of metal shaft. Top of shaft tapers to a point, for head to fit on. Harpoon head consists of an oval-shaped blade, with a sharp point, welded to a triangular holder. Long rope line strung through hole drilled into centre of holder, creating a large loop. Rope is secured together at intervals.

Harpoon3508/1 a-b

Harpoon (part a) with a detachable head (part b). Harpoon has a flat shaft, made of two pieces of antler riveted together, that narrows to a point. Shaft is inserted into a wider “V”-shaped piece of antler, riveted to a cylindrical wooden handle. Knife-shaped, antler blade secured to opposite end of handle with hide ties and copper nails. Hide strip woven through the bottom centre of wooden handle. Strip held close to handle with hide and rope ties. Harpoon head consists of an oval-shaped steel blade, with a sharp point, riveted to a triangular holder. Long hide strap strung through hole drilled into centre of holder. End of strap has a loop handle.

Mate Straw3482/10

Stainless steel straw (bombilla) for mate. It has a flat rectangle-like top, that tapers downward slightly, and is bent at an angle. Raised design between mouth piece and undecorated stem, along the bend. Design is of twisted steel between two plain bands. Bottom of straw flattens out, flaring outward slightly at the end. Diagonal lines cut out on front of straw base, allowing mate to enter stem. Additional steel piece attached to end of straw on either side, curving around bottom. Piece flares out at corners, making it triangle-like in shape.

Mate Container3482/5

Small, gourd mate container with engraved decorations. Container is dark brown and pear-shaped. It has a raised, rounded lip, made of stainless steel. Large circle carved on front of container, with a thick border. "Gabriel" written inside of circle, at an angle and in stylized writing. Band, trimmed with two thin lines, extends from circle and wraps around middle of container body. Inside the band are designs of hills, trees, houses and abstract clouds. All designs are naturally coloured orange-brown. Interior of container is rough, covered in dried pith.

Mate Container3482/2

Small, gourd mate container with stainless steel decoration. Container is dark brown and spherical in shape. It has a raised, rounded lip with braided trim. Plain border around the container opening. Six vertical bands protrude downward from the border, hooking onto an undecorated ring below the container body. Three of the bands extend into curved legs. Lip, trim, border, bands and ring are all made of stainless steel. Interior of container is rough, covered in dried pith.
