Waist Band3080/32

Band, worn around the waist. A light blue rectangular panel with black stripes and backside hangs from the middle of a long band made of blue and bright pink fabric. Blue portion holds vibrant embroidery in Hmong style, showing squares that each hold a stepped pattern in orange, yellow and white.

Collar3080/14

Collar flap from back of women’s jacket. Front has a top panel of dark brown synthetic fibre, under which is sewn a panel decorated in tan, blue, and green step patterning and includes tiny stitching. Around the panels is an edging of faded silk. Back of panel is made of synthetic fabric with pink and purple roses on a green background, with the silk edging showing the original bright pink colour. Flap has been removed from a larger garment and has black thread hanging loose along the top edge.

Hat is small and round with a flat top. The hat’s top is a light pink fabric with an interlaid floral design. The brim is lined with a black ribbon and a chain of folded metallic gold material is sewn overtop. A yellow synthetic fibre lines the hat’s mid-section in a looped pattern.

Hat is small and round with four sides meeting at a flat crown. The hat’s exterior is a bright dark blue velvet with a floral damask design within the fabric. The brim is lined with a strip of light and dark brown fur and the interior is lined with a white synthetic fabric with long fibres, made to look like fur. Between the fur brim and the interior lining there is a small strip of red cotton fabric.

Jacket style blouse. Blouse is short in the torso, with long sleeves, and made of dark blue fabric with a patterned weave. Garment is open at front with a light purple collar. Thin lines of embroidery in orange, pink, green, red and white encircle the wrists, shoulders and hems, and fill the back near hem. Interior is unlined.

Vest3295/17

Handmade vest composed of multiple layers of fabric. From the inside edge, the layers of fabric are red, light blue, white, dark blue, red, shiny white with flowers, and then the armholes are light blue. The dark blue areas are bordered by gold trim. The vest is heavily embroidered with flowers, birds, fish, hearts, and geometric designs. The vest is lined with a thicker fabric.

Dress3295/8

Long-sleeved dress with slit neckline and cross-stitch embroidery (tatreez تطريز). Embroidered with motifs of Palestinian flags, outlines of Palestine, grenades(?), cyprus trees and rifles on front and back panels, around the cuffs and on the chest. Black and white 'chicken feet' patterns border panels and are incorporated into the chest panel. The panels also have Arabic text 'Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine', 'Father of Walid/Waleed' and 'Fatah'. There are small slits on each side of the dress at the bottom. The edges are all embroidered with black thread, except the bottom hem which has red thread. The interior is unlined.

Kachina Figure3255/1 a-b

Large kachina doll. Carved from wood, figure is attached by nails through the feet to a square wooden stand (part b). Figure has a long torso, painted rust-red, with arms held close to body and fists at stomach, a wide square head, coloured a light green, with a long protruding nose and painted eyes and mouth. A thin twisted rope is tied around the neck and a red fringe of hair is attached to forehead. An ear protrudes from left side, and a bunch of tall brown and white feathers and down is attached opposite. A light tan skirt with small black linear design sits at waist, above short legs and large feet.
