Cantonese Opera Boots2701/11 a-b

A pair of boots high enough to cover the wearer’s calf, with very thick white soles curved upwards at the front. The sides of the boots are decorated with frontal images of flowers in two shades of blue sequins, with tendrils extending from them filled in with silver sequins, as are the centres of the flowers. There are also flowers on the toes of the boots. There are long loops of fabric attached to the tops of the boots at the centre front. A red stamp with Chinese characters is inside (a) near top.

Cantonese Opera Boots2701/10 a-b

A pair of boots high enough to cover the wearer’s calf, with very thick white soles curved upwards at the front. The sides of the boots are decorated with images of flowers made of yellow sequins outlined in gold, as are the flowers on the toes of the boots. There are wavy lines of yellow sequins above the flowers. White piping demarcates the foot of the boots from the uppers. There are long loops of fabric attached to the tops of the boots at the centre front. A red stamp with Chinese characters is inside of each boot, near the top.

Cantonese Opera Boots2701/8 a-b

A pair of boots high enough to cover the wearer’s calf, with very thick white soles curved upwards at the front. The foot is demarcated from the calf with a line of silver sequins. The sides of the boots are decorated with large images of birds facing downwards, the birds and their details outlined in silver, and the images filled in with cream coloured sequins. There are long loops of fabric attached to the tops of the boots at the centre front.

Cantonese Opera Bed Curtain2701/14

Curtain of pink synthetic fabric sewn to form an arch-shape with horizontal upper edge of white synthetic fabric to which seven orange-pink Chinese characters are applied with sequins. There is a layer of filmy pink synthetic fabric over this. At the centre of the curtain set are appliquéd three discs of pink silk, each with a Chinese character in black cloth. The lower edge of the arch-shaped curtain has a row of dark pink fringe. Behind the arch is a rectangular panel, and there are curved vertical panels with cotton backing attached to the sides. All are decorated with phoenixes, executed in dark pink, gold, and silver sequins.

LoomSf1154 a-c

Loom (parts a-c) consisting of rectangular pieces of wood (part a) with semi-circular indentations on each end. Attached to the middle of the wood is a woven piece of striped fabric in blue, white, pink and yellow that unravels into twisted threads. There is a small cylindrical piece of wood wrapped in white threads. Part b is a wool back strap rectangular in shape sewn together with rounded side. Part c is a wooden loom bar rectangular in shape with triangular ends.

LoomSf1147 a-f

Loom (part a-f) with an unfinished woven wool textile consisting of a two striped centre of brown and dark brown bordered with multiply stripes and patterns. Thin pink, black and red stripes border a line of red and blue lozenge pattern with yellow and orange detailing. A thick red stripe borders the textiles sides. The textile is attached to two large, cylindrical shaped wooden sticks; one at each end. Intertwine in the multi-coloured warp are six wooden tools: two heddle rods; three flat, rectangular battens with triangular, pointed ends (parts c,d,e) and a long cylindrical shed roll (part b). In a similar pattern to the weaving is a small, circular strap (part f).
