Mask864/1

A long wood mask with another piece attached at the back with bark to give it an oval shape. The light and dark brown and red face has furry dark brown eyebrows and long hair on string. The circular eyes bulge out at a downward angle and have silvery foil at the centre. Two curved pieces protrude from the bottom of each side and curve backward. The bottom of the mask is carved with grooves. Behind the mask there is a long piece of wood protruding perpendicularly.

Seal FigureNa1143

Small carved seal head, flattened at back with an oval hole at centre. Two holes on bottom with loose wooden plugs broken off at surface. Top surface has a row of incised circles with dots inside; wedge-shaped snout with incised v-shaped mouth, whispers and nostrils; eyelash-like eyebrows above round eyes, dots behind eyes. All circles are blackened.

Rigid semicircular necklace made from an extended row of teeth protruding from a thick band of rattan. Fifty-two pig's teeth are woven into a semi-circle of a double layer of rattan. Fine string winds around the teeth to keep them in place and is tied to a thicker string which crosses the open back of the semi-circle.

Half-moon-shaped object is pointed at one end and polished; the rest is dull and has a yellowish colour. Two drilled holes through object are strung with orange cord held in place by pegs. Three bone chips hang from cord. Near hole is 5.5 cm. Piece has rounded end with drilled hole looped with two cords. The four cord ends are tied to a long, much thicker cord. On its end is a strip of horn, attached by being bent over the cord and lashed down.

Dog SledNa975 a-e

Sled (a) made from the lower jaw bones of a caribou, with teeth intact. There is a cross-bar lashed onto the back of the sled below the handles. The rawhide traces are tied onto the front of the sled and have worn through so that the team is not connected. Each member of the 'dog' team (c-e) is represented by a uncarved humerus seal bone wearing a rawhide harness with a long strip attached. The whip (b) is made of thin pieces of carved bone with a long rawhide strip lashed with thread.

Long wooden spear with a straight, cylindrical handle and an elongated spearhead that tapers to a point. The blade has dozens of teeth affixed along both edges. Leaf and fibre woven sleeve at the joint between shaft and blade, as well as over the tip of the head.
