Bone from Level Bag45SJ5E/18

Three mammal bones, including mandible with three teeth, and a proximal ulna fragment. Found in a paper level bag labelled "canis, sj5". SJ5 wasn't the only site that was within the bag. The paper level bag also contained elements of sj2, and sj 185. I was able to locate the appropriate sites for the pieces due to the fact that the bones all had grease pencil markings on them. T The artifacts in this level bag are assumed to be associated with the Burroughs 1949 excavation, based on the site and subsite (letter) designations on the bag, as well as, the age of the bag. Many similar level bags were found in the Archaeology Lab in 1997-1998. There is no level bag list in the documents (see Burke Archives) from Burroughs' excavation, and the level bags were not numbered. As a result, we have assigned each level bag a number based on the site number (and subsite letter if applicable) and consecutive number. L.Phillips, 4/28/98

The bag contains fragments of animal bone and teeth. At least two of the fragments are pieces of jaw bones. Found in paper bag labelled "canis, SJ2". There are two other bags with the same name. These bones all had the site numbers "2a" written on them in grease pencil. The artifacts in this level bag are assumed to be associated with the Burroughs 1949 excavation, based on the site and subsite (letter) designations on the bag, as well as, the age of the bag.
