Rattle1485/7

Plant fibre rattle with a rounded triangular base that tapers to join a cylindrical shaped body that ends in an oval shaped loop handle. The body and handle are overlaid with thin layers of wrapped plant fibre which is decorated with a black pigment. The base has two pieces of boar tusk inside.

Long white-yellow tusk piece with carved spiral grooves that extend to a smooth, long and narrow sharpened point with a small hook. The top of the spiral grooves have rounded edges and the underside of the piece has a flat surface.

Ancestor MaskIe495

Carved wooden, oval shaped mask representing a face. The top of the head is inlaid with two different types of shells. The forehead is elongated with a ridge down the middle and recessed eyes inlaid with cowrie shells. The nose is protruding and has a section of a boar tusk in each nostril. The mouth is partly open exposing carved teeth. Bundles of sennit fibre line the bottom edge. The mask is painted with orange, black and white pigment. The back is undecorated.

Flute Stop FigureIe481

Flute stop representing a male figure with a black and white painted face and a cylindrical post underneath its feet. The figure is wearing a tooth necklace with a cassowary feather skirt and a cowrie shell waistband. The figure is also ornamented with a cowrie shell headband, a circular piece of shell on the forehead, shell earrings, and a segment of tusk inserted through the nose with a strip of woven cord hanging from it. The eyes are inlaid with iridescent shell.

Carved wood mask consisting of a head with an elongated brow; a long nose, mouth and chin. The top of the head is decorated with cassowary feathers and a small tuft of human hair. The face is elaborately detailed with dark blue, light blue and brown stylized designs on a white ground. There is a long, cylindrical shaped piece of wood that stretches from the bottom of the nose to the bottom of the mask; on the end is a small carved bird. The forehead and the side of the face are inlaid with rows of small shells; the eyes and sections of the forehead are detailed with inlaid cowrie shells. The nose has boar tusk on either side. The lower sides and bottom are lined with small bundles of sennit fibre. The bottom tip and the sides have bundles of black feathers.

A highly detailed, white, miniature dog sled team with driver, sled and seven dogs. Dogs wear skin harnesses and are tied to the sled with string. The sled and all figures are mounted on a long, narrow base of walrus tusk.

Pot1295/1

Pot of a decorated gourd with woven neck of grass and plastic(?). A claw protrudes from top of plug, held in place by tightly wound grass. Decorations are in a band around gourd's centre and consist of spirals that meet to form triangular spaces that are filled with either fine incised lines or three petaled flowers.
