Ifa divination tray. Round wooden tray with encircling border of a carved face with an intertwining circular pattern on either side, interspersed with a geometric design. One side and the centre are worn. Underside has a plain border with indented centre and finger hole.
Yellow-brown wood whistle that is circular in cross section and comes to a tapering end and is bound in two places with brown twine, one near the wider end and one near the middle. While the wider end is solid, there is a hollow through the tapering end where there is a taper cut semi-oval hole nearby on one side. Mouth piece is wedge shaped to accommodate a composite whistle.
Pair of adult snowshoes; bent wood frames with (moose ?) hide lacing (untanned). Mid-section wider weave than front and back section. Front cross-baton holds heavier lashing for front toe hold. Back baton also holds lashing. Hide strips wound around sides at mid-section hitch made from 1 inch lamp wick. Back section of shoe frames are nailed together. Tufts of red wool attached to front and sides as decorative elements. Traces of white paint at the front tips of the shoes.
Rectangular basket of skin stretched over a wooden slat frame. Slats are round with strips of cotton and cotton cord. Cardboard is set into the bottom between the skin and the slats. Yellow, orange, and black floral print cotton is stretched over the outside frame and tied with skin strips to the inside of the frame. Two red-patterned, cotton flannel squares are tied to the frame bottom to form a bundling blanket that laces up with a blue and purple wool ? string. Two blue, green, and white floral print, quilted carrying straps, one at each end. Wood handle is looped over the top and tied to the sides by skin strips. A skin and string lace runs end to end and loops over the handle. At the wider end, three items are pinned to the cloth, from bottom to top; a Christian medal, a strip of loom woven beadwork of red, orange, blue, and yellow, and a blue glass brooch.
A cylinder tapering from an open mouth to a closed end with a hole which apparently is for a tether. The blowhole at the top is surrounded by four-prong star-like incised lines. Within the longest arm are six notches. Carved lines encircle the mouth rim and the opposite tip. Stained black but mostly worn to brown.
Hollowed log with a carved face projecting at each end. The snout of the smaller animal head is broken off; the longer head is human upturned, flat and smiling. The hollow is uneven, bulging on one side, and split at the top.
Flute consisting of a large piece of loose skinned bamboo, bound with two sets of crisscrossing fibre and three cassowary feather rings at the top, middle and bottom. The stop of the flute is a carved kneeling man facing outwards with a crested bird standing behind him with its claws ? resting on the man’s head. The bird has a large extending crest on its head, long groups of feathers hanging from the side of its head and carved stylized detailing on its body. Both the bird and the man have cowrie eyes; the bird also has four tassels down the back. The figures and the fibre ties on the bamboo are covered in a black pigment.
