Clam LadleNbz689

Carved wooden ladle with round bowl. The bowl has twenty-three drainage holes and four large holes oriented lengthwise in the centre. The handle narrows towards the rounded end and there is a hole in the end. The bottom of the bowl is rounded. The wood is a yellow-brown colour.

Mouth organ consisting of 17 cane pipes, each with a free reed of thinner wood inserted around the circumference of flat side of black lacquered wooden container shaped like an elongated hemisphere, with a neck to use as a blowpipe. 13 pipes have 0.25cm. round hole and 2cm. split in cane; 4 pipes have neither hole nor split. Both neck and container have bone decoration, forming mouthpiece of neck and at bottom of bowl. Canes held in place by rattan strap.

At each end of line is wooden post with human-like face at top, body not delineated, 5 Chinese characters painted on front of each in white. Number '736' stamped on back of log section.

A three-dimensional male humanoid figure puppet. Has a large head, and jointed arms attached to controlling rods. The pink face is positioned forward with bulging eyes that have red irises, a wedge-shaped nose, and red lips with a prominent upper row of white teeth, and having overlapping fangs at each side of the mouth. Large red crown (mahkota) headdress with multi-tiered diadem (jamang), karawista, sumping, Garuda Mungkur (short-tongue), and badong, deep fringe of hair in red, gold, black, green, and white. Large seam at the rear of the crown. Corpulent torso with large belly, and prominent dark green chest. . Hands are held flat, and bending back at the wrists. Wearing a green, and purple plaid skirt with a leather waistband.

A three-dimensional male humanoid figure puppet. Has a large head and jointed arms attached to controlling rods. The head is positioned forward with the face split vertically into brown and yellow hemispheres. The bulging eyes with red irises are directed upwards. There is a wide, flat nose, and prominent upper teeth between the red lips with two large canines extending over the bottom lip. No headdress. Flat textured black hair. The corpulent body with large belly and gold-coloured skin has ornaments in two pieces at the wrists. Wearing a brown close-fitting top with a brown and blue batik skirt.

Sake cup. Round shallow dish-like cup, on raised single ring foot, of very thin wood, lacquered red-orange. On upper surface is design of two cranes with pine shrubs, in two shades of gold, with touches of red and black. Cranes are in low relief; remainder of design is flat.

Netsuke carved of medium brown wood, roughly in the form of a cone-shaped seed pod, with 8 rounded cylindrical pieces projecting from holes in the base. Pieces can move freely in holes. Projecting from top of cone is an irregularly cylindrical piece representing a stem, bent down and attached to lower edge. Surface of cone is striated; bottom surface is stippled.

Netsuke carved of very hard lightweight dark brown wood, consisting of elliptical- shaped ring to which are attached (all carved from one piece of wood) two ellipse shaped pieces, one end of each is carved out leaving a ring which passes through the central ring. The other end of each is bulbous and hollow, with a slit around the periphery, the slit having a circular perforation at each end.

Netsuke carved of highly polished ivory shaped like a rectangular cube with rounded edges and corners; one short end having several diagonal grooves. Two holes connected transversely bored at mid-point on one side. A rectangular hole is cut through the piece 1-1.5 cm. from one end, through which is inserted, at a 45 degree angle, a rectangular piece of black wood, protruding edge is irregularly grooved. Colour varies from yellow to dark brown. Some cracking.

Carved wood figure of a human with arms folded against the chest so that the hands are upraised and the legs broken off and trimmed at the knee. A small hole extends from the back of each knee to the front. Face has grooved, circular, dark blue eyes with dark blue brows above, a plain triangular nose, and a wide protruding mouth. Hair has been engraved at the back of the head which has a cap on top. Painted features in blue, green. and yellow with detailing including dark hair, a yellow face, a yellow shirt that has dark blue buttons and arm bands, and dark blue suspenders and trousers.
