Rod PuppetIb333 a-c

Three-dimensional male humanoid puppet: large head (part b) fits into body with skirt (part a), and a control rod (part c) with a long shaft that passes through the body and fits into the neck of the figure's head. The body has jointed arms, each with a long controlling rod attached. Pink face, small nose, long neck, red lips, black eyes and hair. Headdress: cap, red star on white with red and gold bands at rim. Gold band appears to have a layer of green paint under it. Body: distended belly, rope protruding from neck. Clothing: light blue tutupan with green and black striped sleeves, red under-tunic, dark blue, natural and light brown batik sarong. Hands attached with cord to control rods. Puppet held by rod running through body and head.

Arrow is composed of two sections. Tan reed shaft is shaped at one end to fit the bow string, hollowed at the other end to hold black wood section. The reed shaft is bound at hollowed end with fibre, and fibre is wound along the length of the black shaft, which is pointed at both ends. The reed shaft is broken near the join of the two pieces.

Flute of brown stained wood, which has a three part reed mouthpiece. There is a tube, and a bell. Mouthpiece has remains of fibre(?) reeds in a cylindrical metal container, both within a circular wooden enclosure. Tube of six finger holes, side by side, lengthwise. Base of bell has four holes equally spaced, cylindrically intersecting tube. White cotton thread is used acoustically to prevent air escape and as handle. Larger piece is part b, and smaller piece is part a.

Mask depicting an astrologer with a yellow humanoid male face surmounted by a green turban that has a red and white floral pattern. The mask has bulging upward looking eyes with red rims and a crescent-shaped slit below each, thin black eyebrows, a black moustache with slightly upturned ends, a straight nose with a pointed tip and flared red nostrils, a short chin, and a slightly open mouth with thick red lips and two rows of white teeth. Incised lines on the forehead represent wrinkles. Two lengths of string are attached at holes either side of the mask. Inscription in blue ink on reverse near top reads, "astrologer."
