His feathers are various shades of reds, blues, oranges with white highlights. His red chest feathers are in a diamond-like pattern, and yellow flame-like feathers extend down from his red head. Operated by one central horn rod.

Shadow Puppet3340/5

Gunungan (mountain) or kayon (tree of life) wayang kulit (shadow puppet) from Ramayana series. Flat shadow puppet cut from hide. Spade-shaped. Side one: a gold tree extending up to the point. The tree branches are filled with monkeys of various colours, peacock feathers, and birds. A large snake is wrapped around the trunk, and at the base a bull and tiger face one another. The lower section depicts a covered entrance gate with ornate roof and yellow pillars. Large Garuda(?) heads with ornate crowns flank both sides, and two crouched figure of the twin giants Cingkara bala(?) and bala Upata(?) with shields and swords. Side two: A background of fire, with bright yellow, orange and red flames extending up to the point. A large depiction of Garuda's blue face with large open mouth, fangs exposed and tongue extended, and five shorter spikes of purples extending up from the brow. The lower section has five shades from white to black. Operated by one central horn rod.

Shadow Puppet2872/9

Shadow puppet of a 2 dimensional human-like figure riding a large mythical bird. The golden skinned figure has a black face with red markings, and long curling black hair. He wears an elaborate, colourful headdress and a robe around his shoulders that falls to his feet. Bracelets adorn wrists and ankles. In front of the figure sits a small green lizard. The bird Garuda has long blue feathers making up tail and wings, and small, delicate brown feathers on the chest. The eyes are red and staring, and a long snout displays many sharp white teeth. It stands on grey birdlike feet on floral grounding. The leather of the puppet is pierced with patterns of lines, holes and curlicues, which allow light to shine through. The whole is held up by a horn handle attached to the leather with fibre. The puppet is painted identically on both front and back.

Shadow Puppet2872/10

Wayang kulit (shadow puppet) of gunungan (mountain) or kayon (tree of life). One side of the object shows a set of white stairs leading up to the closed double doors of a small temple. Guarding the doors at either side are two golden skinned, blue faced creatures (raksasa) holding maces. Their faces are fierce, with red eyes and sharp teeth in grinning mouths. To either side of the temple’s roof are the faces of dragons, with red eyes and mouths, sharp golden teeth, and feathered brows. At top is the head of a purple demon that wards off evil spirits. Above it is a golden Tree of Life full of monkeys, birds, flowers, and a serpent wrapped around the trunk. A tiger and water buffalo face each other at the tree’s bottom. On the other side of the object is a large blue demon’s head with open red mouth and white teeth. It is surrounded on all sides by yellow and red flames. The leather of the object is pierced through with patterns that create delicate lacy designs intended to allow light to shine through. The puppet is held firm by a long smooth handle made of polished horn.

Shadow Puppet2872/12

Two-dimensional shadow puppet. The human-like figure is identical on both sides. It has white skin painted with sparse black hairs, round red eyes, an open, bearded red and gold mouth, and bared gold teeth. The hair is black and curled, and contains a gold headdress. The figure wears a checked and decorated garment that sits at the hips and falls to the floor. His legs are bare, with small colourful serpents wound around the ankles. The arms are encircled by elaborate bracelets at wrists and above elbows, and each hand has fingers as well as a large red and pink claw. A long white tail, decorated with several bracelets begins at the puppet’s hip and winds up to the top of its head. The leather of the puppet is pierced decoratively, especially throughout the hair, to allow light to shine through. Horn handles hold the puppet at the middle and move its fully extendable arms.
