Ornament2582/5

Copper ornament of a whale with its body arcing at a 90-degree angle. Head, top fin, and both prongs of the tail are squared off. Bottom fin is more curved and joins with the middle of one of the tail's prongs. Front of the pendant is smooth, while the back is covered with a brown, hardened substance.

Unfinished copper pendant in the shape of an eagle. Shown frontally with head turned in profile. Wings arc and meet over head, terminating in a horizontal rectangle. Sides of wings are circular, while bases of wings are flat and inclined. Tail is flat on the bottom. Front of ornament is smooth and has engraved date. Back is covered with a brown, hardened substance.

Unfinished BraceletNb1.759

Strip of silver held with wax ? to a block of wood. The silver is a long rectangle and has carvings on it. It is held to the wood with a greenish wax ? known as chaser's pitch. The wax ? is squished out from under the silver and covers much of the surface of the wood. The engraved design on the metal strip has an eagle's head as part of it. The back of the wood has a narrow strip of wood glued onto it. There is writing in ink on the back.

Shaking the Crown BoneNb7.346 a-b

Sculptural installation in the form of two very large lahal sticks. Each is installed vertically, and rotates on a central axis. The 'male' stick (part a) has a wide copper band around its centre, with the Royal Proclamation of 1763 acid-etched into it. The 'female' stick (part b) has 5 copper inlay hands, each with a year acid-etched into it. Both have carved hands protruding from the main post - one pair of hands extend palm-up in the lower area; 8 fisted hands extend out, around the post, above the central area; one hand points downward from the upper area. Both sticks also have two colour-stained, wood veneer bands at each end, with inlaid abalone figures between them. The 'male' stick has 2 crown and 2 jester hat shapes between the top bands, and 2 trees and fish between the bottom bands. The 'female' stick has 2 trees and fish between its top bands, and 3 pairs of sticks between the bottom bands.

Sample Textile1766/23

Silk, rectangular shaped textile sample with a different floral pattern outlined in brown at either end. Some of the outlines are filled with a faint black. One floral pattern is rounded flowers, leaves and grass. The other floral pattern is pointed flowers with matching leaves. Japanese symbols are printed in black in a faded box off to one side between the floral patterns.
