Yarn Painting3573/13

Yarn painting representing the pilgrimage of the Peyoteros. Square wood board has coloured yarn pressed into beeswax on one side to create an image. This painting represents the pilgrimage of the Peyoteros. Two separate groups of people that are travelling towards the centre of the scene, and in the middle are the chiefs. In their path are flowers. Above them, there is a blue gourd with a white candle, blue corn, blue and green deer head with a white candle on its head, brown and blue arrow, and portal design. Above, to the right, is a figure wearing a large headdress, bules, and a knapsack. Left of the sun is an eagle, carrying lengths of various-coloured material in its mouth. Below the bird is a seated figure next to a fire. Upper left, behind the singer, is an arrow, snake, and a bow. There is a house with an arrow and deer antlers outside, and inside are two bowls with a little deer. There is a thorn on the side of the house. In the five peyotes in the middle they have arrows on each side, and to the left there is a woman with her gourd and candle. Along the bottom, there are four spiders, snakes, people and cornfields. Along the right side, there is a house with two people to the left, and a woman on the right, behind whom is a dog.

Gong Beater3489/29

Wooden gong beater with a flat back and curved front. Head of beater has a rounded top edge and rectangular body. It then tapers into a cylindrical handle. Front is naturally coloured, back has darkened to a brown-black. In the centre back, where the head meets the handle, is a large piece of bees wax(?).

Gong Beater3489/28

Gong beater made out of rough, golden brown, plant fibre. It has a domed head that tapers into a cylindrical handle, with a flat base. There is bees wax(?) residue along its handle.

Musical Instrument3489/6

Mouth organ (sompoton) made of bamboo pipes inserted into a dried gourd, sealed together with bees wax. Pipes are bundled together, with plant fibre ties, in two rows of four. Pipes in top row are all the same height, length of bottom pipes vary. Small holes along sides of pipes on outer edges. Gourd mouth piece has a circular body and long, thin neck that extends to the side.

Composite Artifact BagEXU22A002H400

Styrofoam, plastic, foil and wax. All of these post-1900 materials are stored in one bag. EXU22A002H400b (wax) was combined into this bag, and that record was deleted to avoid having two bags with potentially confusing and unnecessary letters at the end of their catalog numbers. L.
