The item search helps you look through the thousands of items on the RRN and find exactly what you’re after. We’ve split the search into two parts, Results, and Search Filters. You’re in the results section right now. You can still perform “Quick searches” from the menu bar, but if you’re new to the RRN, click the Search tab above and use the exploratory search.

Scraper; Field Specimen Inventory indicates object is chert and petrified wood scraper.
Cedar bark found with tag 45-KI-8/182, 3-3. Number and description do not correspond with the object description in Field Catalog Form. Artifact was found in a box with other artifacts from 45KT20. No description was found in the Field Catalog Form, Swanson 1962 or Artifact Record Notebooks. It has been assigned cat. #45KT20/1966-95/17 by the Burke. Z. Garcia Morales, 03/08/2011.
Wooden tool found with tag 45-KI-8/50. Artifact was found with other artifacts from 45KT20. Tag does not correspond with the object description in Field Catalog Form. Artifact is pictured in Swanson 1962 Figure 30i and described as, "cedar awl, lower remains". Artifact is described further in Swanson 1962 on page 58, A. Shelter 8B: The Lower Remains #4: "Cedar awl, tapered at one end, flat with rounded edges at the other end. It shows evidence of exposure to fire. Length 2.20 in.; width, .71 in.; thickness, .12in. Fig. 30i." No corresponding description was found in the Field Catalog Form or Artifact Record Notebook. It has been assigned cat. #45KT20/1966-95/18 by the Burke. Z. Garcia Morales, 03/08/2011.
Braided mammal hair with wood. This was found loose in a box, along with other artifacts from 45KT20. There are five braids of dark brown hair and five pieces of wood, along with a piece of hide. Some of the hair is wound around the wood. Tag in box reads "From plastic bag with tag Misc. box #40 Prob KT20". This corresponds with Greengo 4E24 #40, which states, "bones and animal hair(?) that has been braided." Perhaps someone mixed up bone and wood. Jeff Bradley (collections manager of Mammology at the Burke) believes the hair may be human, horse or buffalo, with a lesser possibility that it is bear. The hair resembles hair in 45KT20/31. No mention in Field Catalog Form, Artifact Record Notebooks or Swanson 1962. It has been assigned cat. #45KT20/1966-95/19 by the Burke. K. Kidwell, 03/08/2011
Pentagonal point made of petrified wood. This point was found loose in a box, along with other artifacts from 45KT20. Matches Fig. 30g in Swanson 1962 (pg. 65). Caption states "Pentagonal point of petrified wood, upper remains." Description is on pg. 58, section B4 ("Shelter 8B: The Upper Remains"): "Pentagonal point of petrified wood, excellently shaped with a slightly concave base. Pitch remains on point from base to midpoint. Possibly used as a knife." It has been assigned cat. #45KT20/1966-95/21 by the Burke. K. Kidwell, 03/08/2011
One brown piece of wood. This unnumbered piece of wood was found loose in a box, along with other artifacts from 45KT20. Label included with wood indicated 45-KI-8 3-2. However, there is no mention of wood on Block card 3-2. No description of this specific wood could be found in the Field Catalog Form, Artifact Record Notebooks, or in Swanson 1962. It has been assigned cat. #45KT20/1966-95/14 by the Burke. K. Kidwell, 03/02/2011
One piece of wood. Accompanying label indicates block card 3S3-4. This wood matches with 3S3-4 in the Field Catalog Form for #45KT20/258. According to the Field Catalog Form, the wood was found along with a seed, dung and bone in a level bag. It has been assigned cat.#45KT20/258.2 by the Burke. K. Kidwell, 03/02/2011
Two pieces of wood found in the same box as knotted reeds (45KT20/1966-95/7) with a note indicating it was from block card 3S2-7. Wood and reed are mentioned on an added note on the block card written by Giles: "Wood, stick and reed samples; construced and pierced reed." However, this is not written in the Artifact Record notebooks. Block 3S2-7 matches with artifact 45KT20/400 in the Field Catalog Form, but the description "Wood, cattail" is too vague to confirm match. No description of this specific wood and knotted reed could be found in Swanson 1962. It has been assigned cat. #45KT20/1966-95/8 by the Burke. K. Kidwell, 03/02/2011
