Stool2738/47

Long stool, carved roughly into the shape of a jaguar from a single piece of honey coloured wood and covered with a design of light brown square shapes, was made for the tourist market. Back legs are thinner than front legs and there is a small carved tail protruding from the back end. Small holes have been burned into the wood for eyes, ears and nostrils, and a wedge shaped slit forms the mouth.

Cross2738/97

Triple wood crucifix. Onto a roughly carved, beveled and painted rectangle of wood have been nailed two crosses, the back one of which has another small bamboo cross nailed onto the top of the centre post. The larger cross is made from a naturally three-branched piece of wood that has been carved square with a diamond shape at each of the three tips and painted dark green and red with silver leaf trim. At the centre of the branch, below a carved red heart, hangs a small card depicting the Virgin, Child and two saints behind a rectangle of silver trimmed glass.

Carved light coloured balsa wood female doll on an oval stand. The basic-outline-shaped figure with carved nose has black facial tattoo and black designs covering the front and sides of the hat, jacket and skirt; the legs, stand and back of the body are plain.

Corpus Christi Breastplate2738/56

Breastplate of a Corpus Christi dancer's costume with shoulder straps and rope waist ties, made from pink, red and brown scraps of material. Sewn onto the front is a square of dark maroon material bordered with silver foil, in the centre of which is a three dimensional wooden lamb covered with a blanket, painted entirely in gold and adorned with tiny metal objects, strings of blue, green, silver and fake pearl beads, and gold foil.

Cross2738/98

Painted wooden cross with plaster 3-D decoration representing the Passion. Sides and back of the wood are painted white with purple spirals while the front has white flowers painted onto a maroon background and is topped with a white sign with INRI painted in black. Two green and white wood ladders are attached to the front and four gold wood poles topped with plaster angel heads radiate out from the cross-point. Other plaster attachments include a dove, the bleeding head of Christ, a hammer and wrench, a bleeding heart and golden chalice, a purple dress, three die, and a golden rooster on a pedestal.

Corpus Christi Staff2738/60

Tungurahua-style Corpus Christi staff. Sword-like, light coloured wood stick, with undecorated handle and bright yellow, pink and purple stripes and splashes over the white paint the covers the rest of the surface, has three rectangular shaped birds bound to its pointed tip with metal wire. The triangular shaped shaft is notched along the length of the three edges.

Corpus Christi Drum2738/59

Small drum with painted scenes of Corpus Christi celebrations. Light coloured skins are stretched around a circular-shaped twig frame, which are fitted over each end of the central wood piece, secured with another bent twig and bound with green plastic twine and leather fastenings that zigzag between the two. On one end is depicted a priest, an elaborately costumed dance figure and an official, on the other, a red spotted wolf and a yellow jaguar stand beside a rounded harp-like object.

Windsock1184/165 a

Carp-shaped windsock, decorated in bright colours and gold paint. The mouth of the fish serves as the mouth of the fabric tube, with an internal (wooden?) structure holding the opening in a circle. The bright fish design covers most of the outside; the predominant colours are blue, black and gold.

Rectangular bentwood box with lid (part b). There are Northwest Coast designs painted on the chest panels, but only traces of the imagery are visible beneath the overall darkened surface. Lid is unpainted.
