Clappers3124/1 a-b

Set of wooden clappers and accompanying cloth bag (part b). Instrument consists of three long, rectangular pieces of lacquered wood, the topmost with a central raised spine, the others flat. An inscription in Chinese characters is carved into the wood of the top piece, filled with green paint. The clappers are joined together with a thick, braided red cotton rope looped through two holes bored through each piece of wood, and decoratively knotted on one side with tassels falling from the ends. The cotton carrying bag is blue with a white pattern of foliage and dots, and has a pull cord at the top.

Box3131/9 a-b

Oblong bentwood box with lid. Small box (part a) is made of a single piece of bark curved into a long rounded shape, around a wooden base, with edges connected by stitchings of leather. Several small nails attach the bark to the base. Bottom interior has remnants of paper that had been glued to it. Exterior shows very faded black and red linear designs and swirls across the surface. Lid (part b) is of similar shape and construction with adhesive attaching the bark to the wooden top. Design is a black dotted line around red and black leaf shapes and triangles.

Carved wooden club. Blade is a long leaf shape, increasingly thick toward the centre on both sides where a line runs down the spine from tip to hilt. Swirling foliage is carved into the surface, a natural light brown colour in crevices, with the surface painted a dark brown or black. The grip on the hilt is undecorated, smooth and rounded, Pommel is in the shape of a bird's head with patterning carved along back and top, under which is a large eye and curved, blunt beak.

String Puppet3129/2 a-b

Puppet of a standing man (Minister character or wun) wearing robes. The figure is made of wood overlaid with an elaborate suit of clothing that includes a light green silk under-tunic and dark green velvet coat edged in a panel of silk heavily embroidered with metallic thread. A canvas sash falls across his torso, embellished with metal sequins and a large jewel at centre. On his head is a rounded hat decorated in velvet, canvas and sequins. Purple pants clothe his legs. The puppet's feet are bare and painted dark brown, as are his hands and head. His face contains inset plastic eyes, a plastic gem earring hanging from the left ear, a moustache of hair, and a moveable chin. Thick string is attached to the hands, elbows, feet, knees and head, leading back to a wooden controller. Part b is a wooden stand with a thick base and decorative post.

String Puppet3129/1 a-c

Puppet of Garuda (mythological bird character). The figure is made of wood overlaid with an elaborate suit of clothing that is fully covered in pewter-coloured sequins, gold metallic thread and beading. Shoulders and elbows of the outfit are padded and pointed, with a heavy coat tail, and long front flap decorated with coloured, jewel-like buttons. The figure's feet and hands are painted thickly in gold, as is the moveable head. The face shows a curved beak with long canine teeth emerging, large pointed ears, and a tall conical hat painted gold. Small shiny stones are embedded in an even pattern across the head and hat. Part b is a gold dagger also covered in gold with inset stones. The weapon fits inside the figure's closed right fist. Thick string is attached to the figure at wrists, upper arms, knees, ankles and head, leading back to a wooden controller. Part c is a wooden stand painted burgundy, with a thick base and decorative post with two horizontal pins that hold the figure under the arms to display it in a standing position.

Necklace3123/50

Leather necklace with three piece pendant. A patch of white goat hair is applied to a square of dark brown painted leather edged with white stitching, under which is a small wooden bead held by two short braids. To each side of this central piece are smaller rectangles of leather, decorated with a border and vertical line of dark brown paint, also edged with the white stitching. These pieces are attached to a necklace made from three thin braids of leather held together by white wrappings. The closure is a loop into which fits a small club.

Mask3123/22

Carved wooden mask. Face is long and narrow, with a dark, pointed beard and tall hairstyle topped by a bun. Inner portion of the face is a light tan colour, with bulging eyes, a small, narrow nose, and protruding diamond shaped mouth. Two rows of small squares decorate the cheeks. The forehead and edges of the face are painted red, with a diamond shape carved on forehead at centre, and two small round ears protruding from sides. The back rim of the mask is large, unpainted, and carries two bored holes on each side and at top. It has been lacquered on the interior.

Carved wooden mask. Mask depicts a long face of a woman, with a long thin nose over protruding bright red lips. Eyes are nearly closed and brows sit close together over top. The lower face is yellow, while the forehead and nose are a rust-red. A large bird is perched on top of her dark brown hair. Its legs are white, body blue, with green wings that are tucked into its sides, and a long red beak connecting with the woman's hair. The inside of the mask is hollowed.

Twin mask. Carved from wood, two long faces sit side by side, with three small legs(?) below, large rectangular ears alongside, and rounded and lined headdresses above. Between the headdresses stands a hornbill(?) bent over with beak between its legs, wings tucked to its sides. The faces feature pointed foreheads, closed eyes, long thin noses with sharp bridges, and pursed lips showing teeth. Small beards protrude below the mouths. The back of the mask is concave and coloured dark red-brown.

Wooden mask. The carved face has large eyes partially closed below thin brows, a thin nose with a sharp bridge and wider nostrils, and protruding closed lips. Small ears protrude from the high on the sides. Three lines are embossed on the forehead and emphasized with white pigment. A band of painted red sits at the top of the forehead, as well as along the lower eyelids. The head is decorated with stripes of carved diagonal lines. On top sit two figures, arms crossed, one leg bent underneath and the other laying outstretched on the head of the mask. Definded buttocks at back.
